Drop the transmission. the clutch assembly is in the bell housing of the transmission. you will also have to pull the driveshaft. there are four bolts on the diff. pull those, push the driveshaft towards the tranny (light prybar may be needed) then it should pull out.

Do I need to take out the transmission to change the clutch on a 1991 Toyota pickup with 4-wheel drive?

Hello. Welcome to FixYa. I will be happy to assist you.

Yes.

You have to remove the transmission, and the transfer case, from the vehicle to access the clutch assembly. There is no other way to remove the clutch.

1991 Toyota pickup 4WD clutch slipping

There is an adjustment for the clutch pedal under the dash where the push rod goes thru the firewall. There is only aprx. 1/2" of adjustment so be careful when making an adjustment, if your clutch is slipping then you need to shorten the throw of the push rod.
