    cable came off window track

  • sublett Nov 24, 2008

Same problem, I heard a loud bang the the drivers window dropped to the bottom of the door. I repaired/ replaced auto glas for 8 years, but got out of it before they started to use cables in american car window regulators. I can't find a diagram of the interior of the door.

I'm having the same problem.  The motor is working fine, it's one of the cables that attach to the track.  Can't tell if it's broken or just disconnected.  Is there a diagram anywhere out there?

I have the same problem and found out that the cable ASSEMBLY has to be replaced. You can't just reconnect it. I'm on line now trying to find hints on replacing the cable assembly (I already bought one on line for about $26.00).

Well Norm this is a common problem on all cars. To fix this you will have to replace the regulator. Which is the hole up and down assembly. They do come without the motor so they are not as expensive.

What is the window regulator

The window regulator is the mechanizm that attaches to the door and the window glass and causes the window glass to move up and down. This mechanism includes the window lift motor and the track for the cable and the glass lifting plate. The window regulator in your Jeep Liberty looks like the picture below.

The driver side window is down and will not go up. How do you get the panel off to look to see what the problem is?

Hey man, for a VW the door panels are usually held on in a few places. First you need to remove the armrest it should come off with a couple bolts, they might be hidden under pop off plastic plugs. Also you will have to remove the window switch it should pop out of the panel after removing the retaining screws. Now unplug the window switch and try not to damage the factory plastic plugs. Now the door panel itself is held on the door with plastic clips. An easy method is to get a good size flat head screwdriver and pry around the outside edge of the panel. You shouldnt have to use to much force and you will clearly feel when the clips pop free. After your sure you have the panel loose go ahead and take it off the car. Note to check for any screws or hardware not scene like in the door jam area. and if it does not want to come off that means its still attached to the car and should not be forced. Ok so if you have the door panel off there will be a layer of plastic glued to the door peel that back. Inside your door you will see your power window motor, the track that the glass sits in and the guide that it runs along. The first place you should inspect is the window motor itself and the cables attached. In my expieriance i have found when a window wont move 9 times out of 10 its a bad power window motor or snapped cable. You can hook up the window switch back to the car to test the motor. Also keep in mink it could be something as simple as needing to greese the window track. Hope that helps.

Rear power window has fallen off track on 2004 jeepcan the door panel be removed and replaced without special tools

Yes. But it is not as simple as putting the window back on track. Most new vehicles use a different type of regulator (not the old pinion and rack type gear. Most use a small motor that is attached to cables that raise and lower the window. Most often these cables break and the window falls. Pull the inner door panel off and you can verify. If it is the regulator, check out Amazon. Seem to have the best prices and warrantees. Good luck!

Car electric window not working. Not a blown fuse, motor on the window making a noise but not raising the window

The window regulator, that the window motor attaches to, has probably broken, either the cable or track my have broke. Most likely you'll need to replace the regulator.

Passenger window off track or bad motor

it is highly unlikely that it is off its track unless the door has been apart & not reassembled correctly.
1. it is possible that the bottom of the window is broken or became diconnected from mounting bracket.
2. if key is on & not started, push switch & see if interior light dim any. if it does, then it is a bad motor or the window is jammed. if not, continue below.
3. remove the door panel & check the electrical connection, it could have came undone.
4. check the electrical connection for power when pressing the switch. if power is present, then check wires leading to the motor for damage. if all looks good, then it is possibly the motor.
5. if no power to the connector, then you will need a wiring diagram to check other possible connection points. hope this helps

Fix power window on 2002 passat

that sound is the wire that roles up your window it is the window regulator. not a real hard job but might want to go to a shop. if not you will need to pull the door panel off the door latch itself to get to its really not that easy.if interested i can walk you thru it you will need to get a window clip repair kit for the drivers side get that from dealership. you will have to remove the window regulator make sure the window is held up in the track when you pull out the regulator. remove the regulator the you will need a torx 30 bit to remove the motor once you remove that instal the new cable this is where it get fun. get the wires ran to the four points on the regulator. then pull on the clips to lock the cable in there grooves then put back together and lock the window back into the clips thats it any questions just respond will try to help.

1998 jeep cherokee laredo windows stop working then start again after turning off the car and waiting

sounds like the power window circuit breaker(most if not all cars use a metal circuit breaker instead of a fuse that can blow)is tripping becuse of a short or overload in the power window circuit.best bet is get ahold of a good wiring diagram for the power windows.also look for any tightness/binding in the window channels/tracks.and check all 4 doors by the hinges where the wires pass thru from the body to the door panels inside a rubber boot.

Cable on the power window motor is off track

You need to replace the regulator. When cable comes off track it usually binds up in the motor. motor, and cable all come preassembled as one unit, known as the regulator.

1999 buick regal. driver window doesnt work and driver rear window won't work but I can hear the motor on back window???

It sounds like the rear window problem is the regulator which is cable driven and the motor attaches too. check and see if your cable is binding up or if the wheels on the track are broken. the front window could be a bad switch or the module you need to test and see if you have power to the front window motor. if you do have power it could also possibly be the motor try to jump power and see if it goes up or down if it does then the motor is good.

The power window on my truck will come down, but won't go back up. The motor seems to be working fine. I need a diagram of all the parts so I can determine which parts need to be repaired or replaced....

Please dont replace the window motor as afformentioned. If you can hear it working properly, you need to replace the little piece that holds it to the arm that pushes the window up. If your window is tilting towards the front/nacl of the door, then you will also need the piece that holds it on the track.
