What kind of brakes are on a 1996 ford explorer

  • Anonymous Feb 12, 2011

it would depend on the model and drive train 2 wheel or 4 wheel drive and size of engine. i would recommend logging in to your local auto shops website and entering your vehicles info. i.e. autozone.com or pepboys depending on your location

1996 ford exsplorer parking brake adjusment, do i need a special tool it has disc brakes

No special tool needed, the adjustment is on the inside of the back wheel drums, there is a little inspection hole usually plugged with a rubber grommet, remove the grommet and use a flat screwdriver to adjust the brake shoes, you might need a torch to get you started, I changed my brake shoes about two weeks ago on my 1996 ford explorer, I had no handbrake and when I stripped the back drums to get to the brake shoes it was virtually metal on metal, no brake shoe left at all. let me know if this helps, cheers Rockie

My 1996 ford explorer wont engage into gear and no brake lights. Have to barely turn key on to get it to Neutral then start explorer and no brake light.

You kind of answered your own Question. If the shifter is a floor shifter and not on the column I would check the linkage there. Do you have reverse lights? And after it starts does it go into gear or is it a dead stick? I would also check to see if the shift cable on the trans is moving with someone moving the shifter. It might be the cable or module on the brake pedal. Give more info after trying these and let me know.

1996 Ford Explorer, stuck in park. Replaced ignition switch, selinoid, bushings... what?

The shift interlock solenoid works off of the brake lamp circuit. Check your brake lights to see if they are working. If the brake lights are not working, the most likely cause would be the brake lamp switch.
