My daughters 2003 Chevy Tracker made a horrible grinding, clunking type of noise yesterday and it would hardly go forward. She got it home somehow, God's help. This morning I started it up, ok, put it in gear ok stepped on the gas and horrible noise and did not want to move. Put it in reverse and no problems at all. Is this a transmission issue, low fluid or?

This sounds more like a brake problem to me I mean if the transmission is not makeing noise when the engine is running in park or reverse put it in drive with the applyed and if you don't hear the noise and then you hear the noise when the vehicle is moveing . It is most likely something wrong with the rear brakes . One of the shoes a hold down spring has broken or a bearing issue parking brake issue . Check the transmission fuild it should be red and not have a burnt smell to it or small peices of metal on the dip stick to be sure But this sounds like rear brakes good luck

Check the fluid to see if it is brownish vs reddish. If brownish, the transmission is overheating and mostlikely needs to be rebuilt. Good luck

2003 Chevy Silverado is making a clunking noise, on and off sometime over bumps. Also a deep grinding type noise in the same location while driving not constant

Hello Karla,

It sounds like you may have a bearing or CV joint going out. Your vehicle will need to be jacked up and inspected. It may be more than one problem too. Its possible the dragging noise could be something between brake pads and rotor, but the grinding that comes and goes in reference to direction sounds like a bearing or joint. I would take it to a professional right away and ask for an estimate only, and then get other estimates from other shops as well. Good luck to you.

TAPPING NOISE, NOW IT WON'T GO INTO GEAR WITHOUT LOUD GRINDING NOISE AND ACTS LIKE TRANSMISSION WON'T ENGAGE TO DRIVE

If it is an automatic transmission, first check the fluid level. If it is low, fill it up and try it again. If the level is fine, then there is a bigger issue and you should seek a professional's help.

2003 Chevy Malibu LS. The problem is an intermittent clunking noise that happens during turns, especially when going in reverse and at slow speeds. There is a single clunk during the turn, and another...

Most likely you have a bad drive axle, each drive axle has 2 universal joints and when they get worn they make a big clunk sound. Especially turning or going from forward to reverse.

2003 chevy silverado 2500 HD when ingageing 4 wheel high on the fly it makes a load clunk and grinding noise

I had a similar problem and had to have the 4 wheel drive serviced. It need new grease. the grease i had was old and it was causing the gears not engage cleanly thus causing the grinding sound until they were realigned.

2001 2wd, v6 tracker LT, 110K miles; Grinding, clunking nosie

If it sounds like a rumble from back wheels it may be the rear end going out. Mine has been replaced twice with used rear end. You should be able to confirm it by looking at the rear tires both sides of tire for an oil leak or wet spot on tire or rim.
