After I switch the car off the electric fan that is located on the engine side fo the radiator continues to run. The only way to stop it is to unplug the connector to the fan that is located on the left hand side of the radiator (passenger side)
It just started doing this last night. Is there a relay that could be bad or is it a temp sensor.

REPLACE THERMOSTAT AND RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.CHECK MECHANICAL COOLING FAN.SHOULD HAVE RESISTANCE WHEN TURN WITH HAND.IF FREEWHEELS FAN CLUTCH NEED TO BE REPLACED.CHECK TO MAKE SURE AUXILIARY ELECTRIC COOLING FAN RUNNING HOT WIRE COOLING FAN IF FAN RUNS.YOU HAVE FAULTY THERMO SWITCH LOCATED AT THE BOTTOM OF RADIATOR ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE ON 4 CYLINDER ENGINE FOR V6 ENGINE THERMO SWITCH LOCATED ON THE LOWER RADIATOR HOSE ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. CHECK FOR BLOWN COOLANT FAN FUSE OR FAULTY RELAY.IF THE AUXILIARY ELECTRIC FAN DONT RUN WHEN HOT WIRED THE ELECTRIC FAN FAULTY.
In BMW 328 To locate the thermostat follow the hose from the right side of the radiator to the motor at that connection there is thermostat.There should be 3 bolts which you will have to remove to take off the thermostat. In BMW 328i The thermostat is located behind the viscous fan and approx 9inches above the center of the fan. The viscous fan drives the water pump and the thermostat housing is just above the water pump at the front of the engine. The thermostat is a one piece unit and is a bit expensive £55 at dealers £42 independent. You will need to remove the viscous fan to get at it there are special spanners for this and its a 30mm socket left hand thread ( screws off clockwise).Thanks. you can rate this solution and show your
