Re: How can you tell if the distributor is bad on a 2000...
If it was bad, your vehicle would not start. If it is going bad, you might start to get a miss. You might also find hesitation at any speed. When you slow down or come to a stop, it could die. If you need anything else, feel free to ask. We are here to help. Thanks for using FixYa.
I have replaced the alternator, egr valve, mounting gasket, distributor cap and rotor, timing belt and water pump (via a used engine was put in), and now the mechanic assures me it is the distributor. I am out a lot of money and have lost my confidence at this time and feel it has become a guessing game. The car is hard to start, even after warming up 10 minutes, it will die as soon as it is put in gear. The car will continue to die with no warning for the first 15 minutes or so. The mechanic claims there is very little spark on the distributor. I just can't afford to replace something that may not be broken. Yes, the car hesitates at any speed for the first 15 minutes, and dies when you slow down.
Replaced the distributor and the catalytic converter...now waiting for two leaks on the head gasket and transmission leak??? (how did that happen, when it had a clean bill from the transmission shop it came from, and had no leak prior to all the other work) Could the leaks on the head gasket be the problem, because nothing else worked, and the car still wants to die at stops when it is in drive or reverse?
