I was driving and the car felt like it cut off. I was giving it gas but it would not pick up and the motor would not raise. It eventually did shut off. It would turn over like it was trying to crank but it would not catch. I let it cool down for awhile and it started back up.

could be clogged fuel injectors or fuel filter could be plugged or your fuel pump is weak and needing replaced, what makes fuel pumps go bad in most vehichles is driving with less than a 1/4 tank of gas,it gets the fuel pump hot and works it too hard
check and see if the fuel pump is pumping gas to the motor by dissconnecting the fuel line from the motor and have somebody to try to start the motor . If the motor is getting fuel the hose will shoot gas . but before this check to see if the fuel pump is cutting off by listening to the pump through the filler neck with cap off if it keeps clicking you need to replace the fuel pump because it is pumping to much gas to the motor and flooding it. if it is not this it may have to do with the distributor not providing spark to spark plugs. or the spark plugs may need to be replaced.
It does have a fuel pump strainer in the tank mounted on the fuel pick up line. You might try some cleaners such as Berrymans that can be added to the tank to clean the strainer. If this doesn't work check your fuel pressure, and if it is not within specs, you may have to pull the strainer and clean it. It also could be your fuel pressure regulator (quite expensive on this model($245) This regulator is vacuum operated so I also would make sure there is not a vacuum leak to it before changing it.
it could be a bad belt or signs that the fuel pump is getting weak put some STP gas treatment in the gas tank make sure you have at least a half a tank of gas before you do this ask yourself when was the last time you changed the fuel filter
