Without the user manual, i have no idea.
If your burning oil, it,s either Piston-Ring Or Valve-gear wear.
I,d only test commpression, if a huge power loss is evident.

BMW E90 LCI, after a long distance trip the engine started making a noise. Had the head fixed, then the car was not picking up RPMs, had the computer box changed to the original, car worked fine

noise could be timing chain tattle due to tensioner failure, fault now sounds like valve timing wrong after changing vanos, there is special tools to set them up, also check the valvetronic servo motor. Scanning for fault codes will also be very useful

What does * LIMIT 4 MPH* message means on BMW X5 2001

It sounds like you inadvertently set the speed warning (you can set it in the OBD to warn you if you go over a certain speed). If the car has nav, look under the "settings", second page, and turn it off or set it to something like 85. If you don't have nav, I'm not sure where the setting is but look for "speed warning" in the manual. Hope that helps.

I need the timing marks for a 1991 bmw 740 il. Do you have a picture?

This type of engine does not have timing marks to set ignition timing, this is electronically set by the DME ( Digital Motor Electronics) which can only be set by BMW specialist and there OEM test equipment.

Hope this helps.

Hi Can you tell me what octane fuel a BMW Z4 2.2 se is meant to use. Do you know of any major problems with this vehicle

A Z4 should probably use Premium. you can use any kinda really besides diesel, just the only thing that will happen is because the compression ratio is set at a certain limit using too low of octane will cause something known as engine knocking, a higher octaine eliminates that. as for major problems, every car has them, the better you take care the better it treats you.

Need to know how to set the timing

Cylinder #1 set at TDC, compression stroke. Cam marks level with head, aligned with mark on cover, or if unclear where to mark the cam: SET Cam at point where intake valve has just closed and both valves are shut on cyl. #1, cam gear marks should start to appear more clearly to technician, along with corresponding alignment points. This is ballpark. Remember, on clockwise rotation, after cylinder #1 intake valve(s) are shut, the cam will continue to rotate 90 degrees and come to rest at a position in which both exhaust and intake valves are at their maximum lash point. (the most play) Hopefully if you get this close, you will decipher the marks that exist on your Bavarian machine.
