It cuts power to the fuel pump when the car suffers crash damage.
The inertia switch is located in the footwell behind the trim on the right-hand side of the vehicle, forward of the front door post, below the fascia. A finger access hole allows the driver to reset the switch.
If the vehicle has an inertia fuel pump shut off, details of the location will be in the vehicle handbook.
Some early cars didn't have the inertia switch and the fuel pump relay relied on a connection to the oil pressure warning light or ignition light or similar so if the engine stopped so did the fuel pump.
Most inertia switches are fitted behind the passenger footwell plastic kick panel or visibly in the engine compartment. A few early examples were fitted in the spare wheel well.
The fuel shut off is a switch - inertia fuel cut off switch , it cut's electric power to the fuel pump . If it was tripped just push the button ! Located behind- driver side kick panel !
The 1999 Isuzu Rodeo does not come with a fuel Inertia cut off switch. In case of an accident, the oil pressure switch comes into play i.e. if the engine shuts off and starts leaking oil. The oil pressure switch also cuts off the fuel pump power.
The problem could be that the air filter has become wet, or water has entered an electrical control device in the engine compartment, or a wire connector or a bulk-head connector might have become loose or dis-connected, the fuse to the ECM or fuel pump might have blown out, or the fuel shut-off inertia switch has been tripped.
Check the fuse to the fuel pump and the fuel shut-off or "inertia" switch, usually located behind the passenger side kick panel, or it will sometimes be located under the carpet just under the heater assembly, and check the red reset button on the top to see if it has been tripped, and push the red button all the way down to see if it will reset. Here is an image of the inertia switch or fuel cut-off switch, and a diagram that shows the location of the fuel cut-off switch under the passenger side carpet to help assist you, and let me know if you require any further assistance.
