Fuel gauge on full is usually a bad sender (in the tank). 0-400 ohms should give a reading (200 ohms is half a tank - not sure if this is the exact number). Bad connection could do this, too.

Fuel guage does not work

The most common cause of an inop fuel gauge is the fuel level sender inside the gas tank is defective, this causes the gauge to read empty or just move a little when filled in some cases depending on where the break in the resistor that the float moves is located.

The fuel gauge is'nt working.I tryed to ground it

When testing a fuel guage you should disconnect the wires to it,guage should read over full, ground the float wire, turn off key then turn back on should read empty. You have to cycle the key for guage to move.If still inop the wire is broken in the harness between the tank and the dash.Voltage on the float wire is low. When tested with a test light it will barely light the light and pulsate. This test indicates the wiring is good.

Two questions. First is the rar fuel tank is inop. Are there seperate fuel pumps per tank or just seperate senders. And second is. When I start off in the am. The temp guage jumps up then slowly comes down...

first question if you have two tanks you actually have three fuel pumps one in each tank and another ahead of the tanks. second question no this is not normal temp gauge has to be bad.

THE GAS GUAGE IS BROKEN WHAT CAN I DO TO FIX THIS PROBLEM

the most common cause of an inoperative gas gauge is the gauge sending unit insde the fuel tank is defective, to replace this u must remove the gas tank and replace the sender.

Fuel guage-1991 ford aerostar

2 things.
There is a sensor that goes from the dash to the fuel pump. If it is disconnected, dirty, or faulty, then thats an easy fix.
There is also a float in the gas tank itself. From what Ive been told after time, or going over big speed bumps, etc, that the float just simply doesnt float or register.
Mine actually shows I have a full tank or im empty at all times. No in between.
