I wanted to tell you of a similar problem that I had and to fix it here is what I did:
If it is a console Shifter, take the body pieces off housing the shifter area to view the shift interlock and take a look at the wire harness (pigtail piece) connected to the shift interlock; the wires are getting pulled out of the pigtail due to a manufacturer defect that they are not seeing as a recall, but if you have warranty left they Will fix it for free.
All you have to do is reattach the wire to the correct location it was, reroute the harness (in my Case it was about a 6 inch harness piece) so it has room to move as the shifter is repositioned to a different area (P,R,N,D,L1,L2,L3) and put it back together!
Try it you'll be surprised!

Stuck in park what causes it and how do you fix it?

possible causes:
-on a hill without parking brake engaged, causing vehicle to jam into park. This can be fixed by pushing the car rearward while having an assistant shift out of park-with engine off. Be careful, and be prepared to hit the brakes soon as park is disengaged.
-shifter assembly locked in park. Look in owner's manual for park release button. Chances are the shifter assy needs replacing.
-linkage disconnected or shifter cable binding or broken.

Shifter button stuck

there should be 2 Phillips screws hold the shifter knob to the shaft. once you take out those screws it should just pop up. as far as I know there are no springs in the knob it's just a slide button. the rest of the parts are part of the shifter assembly.

My 1997 ford taurus wont shift out of park. The shifter seams to be stuck, it wont move. The shifter is on the steering wheel not the floor.

This is often a switch located on the brake pedal lever. The car requires you to press the Brake pedal before shiftting out of Park. You lose the signal when a foot hits or breaks this part. Look under the dash for the part and fix it.

2010 dodge grand caravan stuck in park with engine on

Check your brake lights, if the system doesn't get a brake lights on signal it will not release park, it is called the park lock system.

Ignition key doesn't turn, gear shift stuck in park

Check under your dash at the levers for the Brake pedal. There are some Interlock switches that get hit by feet fairly regularly. The switch that makes the gearshift unlock is on the Brake pedal. You have to have your foot on the brake to shift out of Park.

When the shifter is stuck you will not be able to remove your Key from the Ignition. You need to press on the Brake and then try to get the trigger on the shifter to move into Park. Once in Park everything will be okay.

Trailblazer shifter stack in park

pull your steering wheel to one side and see if it will move the shifter. Sometimes the steering lock will get stuck and won't let you move it into gear. If that does not work then Chalk the wheels and go underneath and disconnect the cable/linkage from the tranny. See if you can move the tranny arm by hand. If it moves then it is in the cloulm/cable or linkage. Try to move the shifter when it is disconnected. If it still won't move then you will have to find out where it is getting stuck. Let me know what happens. Hope this works.
