    same problem starter just clicks

  • robin65 Sep 11, 2008

Similar problem. I can drive at a 100k/h per half hour to get home. Stop at shop for 10 minutes. Go to start car and it just cranks. Find that if I put my foot flat to the floor and start it will go. Has had problem since new and no one been able to fix it so far. Comes out of warranty in March 2009 and they will probably be able to fix after that and charge me an arm and a leg. Taking it to Hyundai in a couple of weeks but don't expect to get any joy.

99 mustang won't start it only do 1 click. If it

Battery good, cables good, all connections clean and tight, no corrosion on battery terminals?
Try to determine if click is from solenoid on the starter or starter relay. Turn the headlights on and watch them while someone turns the key to start. If they get dim, probably the starter-have it tested-even new ones are sometimes bad. If lights don't dim, you will need to check the start circuit. Check for power on the small wire to starter solenoid when key is held in start. If no power there, work back towards the ignition switch. Check the neutral safety switch-should have power in and power out when key held in crank. The ignition switch will have a start wire out of the switch going to the neutral safety switch. It should have power with key in start, the only time the start wire will have power.
Post back with what you find-good luck.

2004 volvo s40 deisel wont start.

connections at the starter or the starter itself. see that the engine can in fact turn over, that it has not seized. the starter has two connections, one big and one small. check that the small one is getting 12v when the key is turned to the start position. if it is, then the starter needs to be rebuilt or replaced

Turn the key to start.. makes 1 click and then nothing..battery seems to be ok,, as does alternator.....what could it be

one click would indicate that the starter solenoid has gone bad. A series of clicks would indicate a low battery.

Try turning the key rapidly to the start position several times. Sometimes this will be enough to get bad spot to move and the starter will engage. If this happens replace the starter as soon as possibly. It will be under the vehicle back where the motor meets the transmission. A basic set of tools is all that will be needed to replace.

If you have any questions I would be happy to answer them!

2004 ion won't start. Lights work. When I turn key don't get series of clicks, get one snap.

That symptom usually means the solenoid on the starter is bad and no longer is completing the circuit to engage the starter. A new starter will likely solve that issue. A series of rapid clicks would indicate a week battery. You can try repeatedly turning the key to the start position rapidly, sometimes the starter wil start working. You can also try tapping the starter while somebody holds the key in the start position, if the starter engages place it.

My 2003 grand caravan starts sometimes but other times i only get 1 click then i turn key again and sometimes it starts right up or ill get another click could this be my starter?

It sound like a bad connection at the battery terminal, start by cleaning up the battery post first not only the terminal. If the post are black clean them the must shine then the inside of the terminal. Now check your ground connection it must be clean also. Now that all is clean make sure that it is also tight, turn the key it should turn on without fail. If you still get a click check the connections at the starter just like at the battery. If you still get a click jet the starter checked at a auto parts like auto zone you may need to replace it. Hope this helps you. JOe

Your description indicates a dead spot in the starter. When it does this and you keep turning the starter it moves past the dead spot and will start. This may require starter replacement.
