Camshaft Position Sensor

I have a 2000 BMW X5 4.4 liter showing P0345 camshaft position sensor on bank 2 is malfunctioning. Could you tell me where it's located?

    Camshaft Sensor in Bank2 is causing the check engine light to come on. I bought a new camshaft sensor. Where is it located?

I have a 2000 x5 4.4 my problem is i can turn the ingintion switch wait about 3 to 4 second and the SUV will start. Or sometime I have to turn the inginiton switch all the way off and back on again before it start. I have had the ingintion replaced about 9 months ago.

06 bmw 525i codes p0174, p0171, p1338, p0340, p0365, and p1315


codes p 0171 and 174 refer ti system too lean
codes p 0338,340,365 refers to crank. and can shaft position sensors
code p1338 again is camshaft position sensor
code p1315 again is camshaft position sensor
too lean can be from fuel pump pressure too low
and position sensors can be wiring , connections sensors.
Involved in all these , one of the possible causes is the ECM
IF it is possible get a serviceable replacement ECM unit and substitute it first as there is no point in replacing all the rest if the ECM is faulty
could be water in the connections , corrosion etc
it is always suspect when so many different codes suddenly appear at the same time

Before you replace a part you may or may not need . Why ? What code ? Does the vehicle run ? There has been a lot of confusion on these vehicles with variable valve timing , mixing up cam sensors with camshaft actuators
DTC P0008: Engine Position System Performance Bank 1

DTC P0009: Engine Position System Performance Bank 2
The presence of DTCs P0008 and P0009 along with P0016, P0017, P0018, and P0019 indicates a possible condition with the primary timing chain and the alignment between both intermediate sprockets and the crankshaft. Or, the crankshaft reluctor wheel has moved and is no longer referenced to top dead center (TDC).

Observe the scan tool CMP Desired, Actual, and Angle Variance parameters before a DTC sets. This may help to isolate whether a condition is specific to one camshaft, one bank, or caused by a condition with the primary crankshaft timing.

I'm sorry but when dealing with these problems your best bet is to take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop , I have never see a DIY'ER correct the problem with these , an in the end always end up taking it to the dealer .

I am not sure what "slip n tcs" means but on the 2005 nissan maxima the code P0340 is for the camshaft position sensor circit on bank 1, which is in the rear of the engine compartment. Code P0345 is for camshaft position on bank 2, which is in the front of the engine compartment. The images show the Cyl banks and a cam sensor.6_29_2012_3_38_07_am.gif6_29_2012_3_40_48_am.gif

P0345 Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2) A code P0345 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
  • a wire or connector in the circuit could be grounded/shorted/broken
  • the camshaft position sensor may have failed
  • the PCM may have failed
  • there exists an open circuit
  • the crankshaft position sensor may have failed
    • Visually inspect all the wiring and connectors in the circuit
    • Check for continuity in the circuit wiring
    • Check the operation (voltage) of the camshaft position sensor
    • Replace the camshaft position sensor as required
    • Check the crankshaft position circuit as well
    • Replace circuit wiring and/or connectors as required
    • Diagnose/replace the PCM as required

I have a nissan frontier 2006 and I scan computer and he get me the error p0345, cam sensor. I need know where is this sensor for change


The camshaft position sensor monitors engine speed and piston position. These input signals to the ECM are used to control fuel injection, ignition timing and other functions. The camshaft position sensor has a rotor plate and a wave-forming circuit.

Also, if there is no cam signal, the ECM(on-board computer) isnt able to send a proper signal for both fuel injection pulse or for the spark plugs to ignite at proper time, which results in a vehicle t quit running, and a no-start condition.

The camshaft position sensor is integrated into the distributor assemby and if bad the distributor must be replaced (click image for zoom):

P0345 - Camshaft Position Sensor A Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2)
This indicates that a problem was detected in the camshaft position sensor circuit of bank 2. Since it says circuit, that means the problem could lie in any part of the circuit - the sensor itself, the wiring, or the PCM. Don't just replace the CPS (camshaft position sensor) and think that will definitely fix it.

Symptoms can include:
Hard starting or no start
Rough running / misfiring
Loss of engine power


Causes: A code P0345 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
a wire or connector in the circuit could be grounded/shorted/broken
the camshaft position sensor may have failed
the PCM may have failed
there exists an open circuit
the crankshaft position sensor may have failed

Possible Solutions: With a P0345 OBD-II trouble code, diagnosis can be tricky at times. Here are some things to try:
Visually inspect all the wiring and connectors in the circuit
Check for continuity in the circuit wiring
Check the operation (voltage) of the camshaft position sensor
Replace the camshaft position sensor as required
Check the crankshaft position circuit as well
Replace circuit wiring and/or connectors as required
Diagnose/replace the PCM as required

My ODB-ll code reader displays P0345 and P0349 what is the difference between each one .i replaced both camshaft position sensors


The difference between the two is,
P0345--- there's a problem in the camshaft position sensor "A" circuit on bank 2,
P0349--- it's an intermitten problem in the camshaft position sensor "A" circuit on bank 2, which means the problem comes and goes.
