I can't get any reception with my radio. The cd player works fine but the radio barely picks anything up in the city and is all static on the highway. Just bought the car used and it seemed to be working yesterday when I drove it and tonight when I got in it what I described is what it was doing. Any ideas?

Assuming the vehicles antenna is intact and in one piece, check the antenna connection behind the radio. If the antenna is connected behind the radio, there could possibly be a problem with the radio's tuner (internally). The only way to properly diagnose this problem is to place a radio that is known to work into the vehicle (simply to test) and check the radio reception. If the radio reception is improved and working, you know the problem lies within the radio itself.
If it still does not work, there is a problem with the antenna on the vehicle (disconnected, damaged, cut, etc.)
As suggested it could be underhood electrical interference. If the "static" changes with increased rpms (rev the motor to find out) chances are it is ignition related and could be literally everything from the alternator to the ignition coil through the distributor cap, but best bet is the spark plug wires (which if still original really should be replaced anyway) or the plugs themselves. If your am static doesn't change with engine revolutions and your fm works okay I would check antenna and the antenna connections at the base of antenna and back of radio. if you cant even get a clear signal on the most powerful AM station in your area, I would bet on some kind of break in the connection between radio and antenna. p.s. if you;ve anything plugged into cigarette lighter or other 12volt outlets in the vehicle unplug them before doing any of the rest!
It sounds to me like the radio antenna has disconnected from the back of the radio head unit. Pull out the radio to check and see. I hope this helps, if not, let me know and ill try to assist you further
i would pull set out and have a look at the printed circuit from the aeriel to where ever it goes to in the circuit board ,if i couldnt repair it ,then i would have a nice drive to carrefour(hypermarket) and buy myself a belson which has usb/sd card/cd and they do one with blue tooth all for about 100€ and fit that .who needs a cd changer when you can put a 2 gb sd card in that can hold 40 +cds or plug your i pod in
