This depends primarily on the operating temperature of the thermostat. Typically you can find 3 different temperature ratings (160, 180, 195)

1986 Ford Bronco, 302 EFI. Surges in idle. Speeds up then slows down.

Probably a loose or missing vacuum hose. Check the vacuum diagram under the hood and look for loose or cracked hoses.

Where is located the map sensor in a bronco 302 1988,

Firewall. Passenger side. About the size of a deck of cards & laying flat. Wiring harness and 1 vacuum hose hooked into the front of it. See the picture below.The Map sensor circled in blue. helpmech.jpg

Firing order for ford bronco 5.0 302

1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8
Distributor goes in counter clockwise rotation
Looking at engine from the front, #1 plug is the very first one on the left side of engine.

Bought a 88 Ford Bronco 2 yrs ago, 302 FI running rough again.

Put some ethernol treatment with stabilzer in it..
Change the fuel filter, air filter and give it an oil change...
If you can do it yourself do a trani service..

1988 Ford Bronco Transmission Issues

is the idle speed correct? do you shift into second before trying to engage reverse?, is the clutch ok, this is most likely not the trans at all but one of the above issues, the clutch is my guess.
