Question about 1993 Volvo 850
I had the same issue so I took the glove box and kick panel off to gain access to the blower motor. I then actuated the fan selector switch and could hear the sound of the motor trying to start up but it couldnt seem to get going and then the sound would just stop after about a second. So i gave it a couple of taps with a rubber mallet. It started spinning almost instantly. I then removed the motor from the shroud to see what was wrong with it. I noticed that there was a lot of build up on the blades as well as on the armature so I cleaned everything up as best I could, making sure to clean the contacts as well. Finally I inspected the inside of the shroud and noticed that the reason the fan couldnt spin at first is because the blades were hitting the inside of the shroud. So I sanded down the fan blades as well as the inside edge of the inner shroud. I reassembled the unit and it has been working perfect ever since. I was expecting that the relay was bad or the motor and it turned out to be a free fix. Hope this helps.
