Question about Buick Century

1 Answer

The antenna stop working and now the car won't start once it's turned off. the fuse for the radio had to be taken out a few months back because the car wouldn't start. now the motor for the antenna keeps running after the car is shut off and that causes a drain on the electrical system. how can i get to the motor? do i have to take the right end fender off just to get to it since that's where the antenna is located? Radio and antenna stopped working

The antenna relay is controlled by the radio. The 15A ACC fuse in the driver side J/B and the 15A DOME fuse in the engine room R/B control application of power. If the fuses are OK, the power loss could be occuring elsewhere.

Check your ground strap that goes from the engine to the firewall. It may be loose and moving, causing a disconnect.

Radio quit working

Sounds like someone shorted the wires...you need to look into the entire butcher job and see what wires were touched. Disconnect everything the butcher did and then see if your battery is still drainning power.

I think it's a problem with the radio itself. The antenna only responds when the radio is turned on / off. So the antenna sounds like it's working properly.

1993 T100--Unplug antenna motor

Find access to where the antenna motor is, and visually inspect/trace what kind of electrical connection there is going to it. It may be a simple unplugging of two connectors. I am suspecting that the antenna motor and the radio share the same fuse, as the power from the radio passes thru to the antenna motor when the radio gets turned on. So, can't just pull the fuse. But if there is a fuse JUST for the antenna, then pull it out.
