Have you looked in the distributor, this may be the old points and condenser system and if so you want to check the point gap if not it is likely a problem with the ignition coil or distributor.

Weak Spark to coil

My dad had a 93 GC and he had to replace somekind of crankshaft sensor then it was fine ever since. I guess those inline 6's are known for that.

Check your inline fuel filter for debris filter may have gotten clogged. Yes replace the air filter also find the engine size info to get he right filters. Also check your spark plug wires make sure they are tght on plugs and are not frayed or broken.

Method for changing Spark Plugs out on '99 Jeep Wrangler TJ 6CYL

Plugs is easy.

I use only Valvoline as it doesn't tend to gum or sludge my engines like Penzoil or Quaker State did.

I assume this is a 4WD since your asking about the gearbox, and it's an automatic.

I can't imagine what 'inline' oil filter should be; your engine is an 'inline 6' though.
This term applies to any engine that is not in a 'V' configuration.

Here is a quote I found while trying to find an illustration:

"It's a pain on the 02 4.3L . The damn thing is right next to the oil pan. It's probably half inch off the pan. Sometimes i wonder who design that idea."

Since GM isn't real quick to ditch engine designs, I suspect the mentioned 2002 and yours will be the same.

POSSIBLE TO convert 1973 ford F100 390 to inline 6

No not much trouble. However it depends on what Transmission you are using. If A stick, then you will need to change bell housing and you will need to use flywheel fro either a 302 V-8 or another strait 6. 300 or 240 which ever you are using will also need the hard mounts from another truck. The mounts are diferent from one with a 6 to one with a V8. Also the radiator if I remimber correctly is diferent in the way the hoses hook up. There will be a little more money to do this change. But it is easy once you make the plan and see what needs to be done. I have gone from a 300 6 to a 302 V8 in a 78 F-150. It was quite easy and i did it in a day. Any more questions ask.
