My daughter's 2000 Grand Prix has the same problem and we have had a GM dealer "look" at the wipers and they weren't able to offer a solution. I did some research online and found out that the solution will probably be to replace the complete wiper assembly which I believe is approximately $450. With over 150,000 miles on her car we just can't justify the expense. Plus she says the "problem" is quite a laugh with all of her friends. Maybe someone will let us know if there is another less costly fix!

My daughter's 2000 Grand Prix has the same problem. We took her car to a dealer and they had know idea. That was $70 for nothing! Then I did some research online and found that the wiper assembly will probably have to be replaced and the cost would be around $350 - which is too much for a car with over 150,000 miles. My daughter is used to the problem now and it's quite a laugh with her friends. Every now and then she calls to let me know that they have gone all the way down to the correct position - but then the next time she using them they stay up. Oh well . . .

Been reading on other sites they say you have to take off your wipers and the plastic gaurd underneith there you wiill find a peice of metal that is suppose to be at a 90 degree angle and over time it wheres down and bends to like a 45 so you just have to bend it back so it catches right and you will be good :)

I have the same problem. My friend and a couple of car buffs mentioned that as you said it could be the motor, but they said they had the same problem with a another GM car and that the problem could be in the circuit relay which would be a much cheaper fix I believe.

We have a 2002 pontiac grand prix gt with wet snow the windshield wipers came apart at the base (under cowling) got it fixed they work now but the driverside stops at 3/4 swipe then goes down. passanger...

While the wipers are in the parked state, just loosen off (or remove) the wiper arm from the drive spigot and re-position the driverside wiper arm to the correct position.
Re-tighten arm drive mount and all should be well.

Wipers Blades stay UP when in the off position

As far as the wipers staying up this is a common problem with them. I have a 2002 that had the same problem. There is what they call call a park tab that tells the wipers where to park at when they are turned off. Technically the tab should be replaced however I got by with heating it up and bending it back into the shape it is suppose to be in. You have to remove the cowl below the windshield to get to the motor which is where it is located. I would say the skill level required for this repair is at least a 3 on a scale of 5 being most difficult
