Radiator on a 1988 dodge dynasty

My coolant was leaking and my mechanic said I should replace the motor, serpentine belt and one other belt that I can't think of right now. He also want me to replace the radiator, but I think there is a way that the radiator can be replaced instead of replacing the whole thing. I mean, the price is probably more than my car

Most mechanics dont like for their customers to keep coming back for the same problems over and over because it makes them look bad and making you think that they dont know what they are doing so if it was me , being the cheap scape i am , would tell them to fix whats wrong for right now and i will be back for the other things later

Overheating Problem with 2003 Bonneville. I have

The one thing I would check first is the cooling fan a quick check is with engine running turn a/c on and see if radiator cooling fans are running, if they are then we know the the fan's are good, if they don't come on check voltage at cooling fan if you have voltage bad cooling fan, turn car and a/c off, start car again with a/c off and fan's should come on at about 220deg. if they don't come on disconnect coolant temp sensor fan should come on, more then likely bad coolant sensor, now if fan don't come on you'll need check check your radiator or have a radiator flush.

My car is over heating and cokkent oil is leaking

Cars generally overhead when engine coolant is below acceptable levels. That can be caused from leakage, blockage or equipment malfunction.

  • Inspect coolant level in the vehicle's reservoir or radiator.
  • Inspect radiator and heater hoses for cracking causing leaking.
  • Inspect the radiator for leaking.
  • Inspect the inside of radiator for smudge build-up, a sure sign that the water jackets might be restricted.
  • Inspect water pump for leaking or broken belt (serpentine belt)
  • Check to ensure water pump properly functioning, does the pump's pulley turn?
Repair or replace any faulty item.

White Smoke coming out of bonnet & exhaust, stinks of burning oil 1989 dodge dynasty is blowing out white smoke now, and it does smell like burning oil, i owned a 1988 dodge dynasty and it did the same...

Sounds typical of head gasket failure.

With this you get oil into cylinders / water into cylinders, burning oil, loosing water - but no leaks. "boiling" of radiator and overflows.

Check your coolant and oil levels - they will be low.

Get a few quotes for a head gasket replacement - and timing belt change, as it has to come off when you do this anyway & no sense putting an old one on - they often snap if retensioned.

If this solves your problem, please take a moment to rate as Fixya! thanks.
