i have the same problem various electrical items don't work and you have to play with the key to get them to work. one day it is the windows one day the sun roof. it is never the same thing. The switch is a pain to change but everything works now.

I had the same problem last year. It turned out to be the ignition switch. This could be the problem for you, maybe?

Truck wont start

Starter fluid won't work if the starter won't turn the engine over.

Get the battery load tested...it may not have enough juice to start the truck but have enough to light up the lights

check your fuses and battery connections at the starter. Is the anti theft light flashing? If it is that's your problem. Wait 10 minutes insert the key...wait for the theft light to go out before trying to start.

if that doesn't work you will need to get the starter checked...which means you will have to take it off.

91 geo metro won't turn over, lights come on, starter doesnt engage

Hi Teresa thats ththhe sign of a battery going bad, how old is the battery? You might want to have it load tested so you can trouble shoot further, there could be more than 1 issue.

Engine wont crank, no fuel pump running but has ignition. ETC light stays on longer than bulb check should.

no crank, is basic starter path failure
the lamps are useless here,
ill guess automatic trans.....
forget pump, just starter.

does it crank in neutral as instructed in the oper, guide?
yes/no
if yes, park switch
no, the jumper cable crank engine, does it crank now.?
yes, battery was dead, or lugs corroded green
no? then clean lugs, rpeat
no? the starter bad or key line bad
next
HOT WIRE THE STARTER At solenoid(keys in pocket)
no crank with good battery, starter is bad. (or possible cables)
yes, crank well now you know your starters good in 5min.work
this means the KEY line is dead.
id scan the pcm now or first,is better.
some cars have starter relay
what happens is the PRNDL switch in the trans
in P or N , energizes said relay allowing the key line 12v reach said starter small lug.
see?
only $10 voltmeter i see the cause fast.
easy .
the key in must be 11v or more. cranking.
if 0 or real low bad line, 8v the solenoid chatters.so....
ending my secrets now..

no tools? nor meter?

charge your battery?> have some one charge it and test it.?
jumper cable crank it(call AAA TOW?)
USE a known good battery from other car yet.
all fail check key line
hit starter on side with hammer? (sorry a tool)

btw dead batteries fail all tests. so charge it first then test it or be out $130 for nuttn.
(makes car stores rich, not now..)

Lights comme on but wont start ignition or starter

what lights? name them>?
what year caar.
the word is CRANK does the engine crank fast?
no cranks. (if it cant crank it cant start, unless like my M/T pushed or gravity started)
1: check fuses first.
2: jumper cable crank it. that work>?
if not say so.
yes, then your battery was dead for 3 reasons. ask.
no, then the starter need to be hot wired and tested. for bad key line.
will it crank in A/T neutral , not using PARK
as the operators guide shows?

Why wont my jeep start some times put lots of new parts in and its been at a jeep dealer for 2 weeks and they cant figure it out its like the Batt has been unhooked it will start fine then the next ti

you meant it wont crank? , right?, no A/T car starts, until cranked. so......what is it.????????
if you learn the art if testing, you win this battle.
here they are.
NO CRANK 101: (rule 1, it must be failing to find a cause)
it not failing, nobody can fix working cars, but they will try, and charge you for doing nothing at all. your choice.
its failing....
  1. does it crank with jumper cables to running car?
  2. are all 4 ends if the battery cables clean and tight?
  3. when you hot wire the starter solenoid, keys in pocket , does it crank now?, if yes, good, if not the starter systems are failing.
  4. if yes, it cranks now, then the KEY line is dead.
ill stop here,,,,, if key line is dead, wiggle the shifter, or try neutral cranking.. at shfiter. (bingo that>?)
battery at 12.6vdc charged and rested before starting the tests.
use a cheap voltmeter.

put what parts in?, do tell , the battery would be first. no?
try a loaner battery?

if the car always cranks then say so, that is called
cranks but does not start. period.
answer the simple questions and we can take you to the cause.
my voltmeter has never lied to me yet, in 50+ years.

lets say it cranks all the time.
cranks but does not start

2006 grand vitara will not start and solenoid will not click. Battery is fine.

you mean it wont crank, no car starts with a dead starter. unless push started.
wiggle the shifter lever, that is the PRN switch if the switch lies
and shows not Park the starter will be dead by DESIGN.
you can hot wire any starter solenoid and see if the starter works at any time.
if it does , the its not the starter, its the key line.
the key switch creates the key line signal. and goes to tranny then starter. if this line opens for ANY reasons, the stater (even good) will never crank.
this is to prevent , the old Audi lady from running over her kids.
it can be defeated. you can ever add an "override switch)
many do after seeing $200 PRN switch, dang.
ok you are impowered, (sorry so late )

1999 audi a6 wont crank sometimes

Either there is a bad or dirty battery connection which is allowing the lights but no crank or you could have dirty or loose starter wires or starter relay may be bad or ignition is a possibility. All these can be tested with an ohmmeter for power. I would start with connections
