Cruise control won't work

As several others on the forum describes i experince the same problem that the cruise control sometimes won't work. Other times it works for some minutes and then suddenly it disconnects?
I had the car to several workshops but always new explanations but still no fix.

What could it be?

This relates to manual transmission: There is a small comment in the manual that says cruise control will not engage if the computer believes this will result in under or over reving the engine. My intermittent behaviour seems to be due to this. As long as the revs are between 2k and 3k then cruise engages. Can then change gear to get the fuel efficiency. - A6 2008 2.7l Diesel. Hope this helps.

99% of the time it's the combination switch (the column switch assembly that houses the turn signal stalk and the headlight stalk). They're not designed extremely well and are a known failure area on the A4, which I believe shares the stalk with the A6. If it's the stalk, it's about an hour long job yourself to change it out, and the part is about $158 new. You do have to deal with the airbag though (the steering wheel has to come off), so if you're squeamish about this, it may be better to have it done by a shop.

Great - glad it worked. There is a cruise control module inside the dash, above the glovebox, on some Audis, but there's no way to know if yours has that or has it incorporated into the car's computer. Still, the stalk is the usual reason that the cruise fails. Glad you are back on the road with it working again:)

Parking Brake Light won't turn off, Cruise Control won't engage

Get down and look at parking brake assembly, If you see an electrical connector, unplug it, see if that helps? If it doesn't help or causes other issues just plug it back in.
Of course that isn't the proper fix. If something wrong with parking brake assembly, get it checked out.

02 TB, cruise control works intermittently, now wipers wont come on

Debbie, this sounds to me to be the control arm that turns your wipers on and also has the cruise control operation also on the lever, When this wears out you can have weird symptoms, sometimes the wipers will work and the cruise wont and sometimes the other way around. On the starting issue, it sounds like the ignition switch on the column is worn out sometimes making contact and sometimes not. If the vehicle has a ton of miles on it these plastic parts wear out and need replacing.
