Question about 1997 Dodge Intrepid

1 Answer

Occasional missing My Intrepid misses occasionally. I cannot find a pattern. I have had the plugs and wires changed. The computers in the mechanic shops can't find the problem.

Check plugs and wires, if they are good do a compression check, if it is good check and make sure the injectors are all firing. Is it a constant miss, or just an occasional missfire? If it is constant a laser pyrometer can be quite helpful in determining what cylinder is not firing.

Occasional engine miss

Start with the obvious which is the spark plugs and wires. Make sure the plugs are not fouled and that the wires are seated good. Also make sure that any other connections with the ignition path are secure and clean.

Why does my 1998 sebring idle fine but sputter badly under load.

Does it use spark plug wires or individual ignition coils for the each plug?. My 98 intrepid uses coils and occasionally I have to change them out cause it would start to miss when normal temperature was achieved. If it uses wires, try replacing them, along with the spark plugs.

Occasional miss or hesitation while driving will also do this at idle have checked points and set at 20 thou have changed plugs set timing at 7btdthen advanced a little after no change leads are only...

You set the gap at 20 sould be 16,a hesitation or occasional miss is not from the points or condensor, its from the craburator, its a power valve or your float getting the hesitation can be the secondary not feeding at wide open throttle, the carburator is faulty, and plus todays fuel is not meant for carburators

Occasional missing. A very occasional miss or stumble. Has even died on low speed cornering.

my Ford van was doing the same thing i put in spark plugs, wires, fuel filter do this first try some STP gas treatment and make sure you have a half of tank of gas in the tank also give these websites a try www.alldatadiy.com and www.autozone.com if all fails stop by your local library and get your hands on a Haynes auto repair manual for your van wish you the best of luck Michigan Man.
