You don't have to use super, however if you look at the inside of the fuel door, it sais "premium fuel recommended". If you use regular, the car may ping/spark knock and there is a performance loss. At least I felt performance decrease in my 2000 Maxima. So if you can deal with some noise and perfromace decrease, use regular. The spark knock will not damage your engine, but it may sound like its coming apart, especialy on hard accel up hills.

Has your Nissan sat for a period of time? If so, could be dirty gas...try adding 2 bottles of Heet gas line antifreeze and injection cleaner..also as this works, be sure not to let the gas level go below 1/4 tank...If needed check air filter dirty...throttle body dirty...Hope this helps.

2000 nissan frontier acts like its not getting gas or going to cut off when its idling

I had the same problem, there was a recall on that model, The fuel sender unit needs to be replaced, no charge to you, check the nissan frontier recall list for the VIN numbers that were affected, call Nissan and they will give you a confirmation number, then you could bring to any Nissan dealer that has a service department.

just regular gas. Gas now days is made to run in most older cars. You do not need to run a high octane fuel in those cars.
