When the PCM detects 3 occurrences of TCC slip between -20 and +50 RPM for 5 seconds, indicating the TCC is applied, when commanded OFF, then DTC P0742 sets. DTC P0742 is a type B DTC.
The PCM energizes the Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Valve Assembly (TCC Sol. Valve Assy.) by creating a ground path on circuit 422. When grounded (energized), the valve stops converter signal oil from exhausting. This causes converter signal oil pressure to increase and move the TCC apply valve. The TCC Sol. Valve Assy. de-energizes when the PCM no longer provides a ground path. When de-energized, the valve will exhaust fluid and release the TCC

Install the Scan Tool .
With the engine OFF, turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
Important: Before clearing the DTCs, use the scan tool in order to record the Freeze Frame and Failure Records for reference. The Clear Info function will erase the data. Record the DTC Freeze Frame and Failure Records, then clear the DTC.
Start and run the vehicle.
Select TCC Slip Speed on the scan tool.
With the transmission in D4, drive the vehicle through the 1-2 upshift.
In second gear is the TCC Slip Speed within the range specified?
-20 to +50 RPM
Go to Step 3

In order to verify your repair, perform the following procedure:
Using the scan tool, clear DTCs.
Operate the vehicle under the following conditions:
• The gear range is D2, D3 or D4.
• The commanded gear is not 1st.
• The engine speed is greater than 500 RPM for 5 seconds.
• Not in fuel shut off.
• The engine torque is 95-270 N·m (70-200 lb ft).
• The throttle position is 14-50%.
• The PCM commands the TCC OFF.
• The TCC slip speed is 150-2000 RPM for 5 seconds.
• The engine speed is 800-4000 RPM.
• The vehicle speed is 32-112 km/h (20-70 mph).
• The speed ratio is 0.65-1.18.
• The last gear change occurred more than 3 seconds ago.
Select Specific DTC. Enter DTC P0742.
Has the test run and passed?

Why is my 1998 Ford Windstar 98 reading DTC P0743?


#1) Low or dirty transmission fluid #2) Wire/circuit issue shorted to power or ground #3) Failed torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid #4) Failed TCC assembly in the torque converter.....

Since Transmission has been rebuilt I would strongly suspect the TCC solenoid and/or its wiring...When transmission was rebuilt did the TCC get replaced? If so, due to being intermittent, Check the TCC plug (both female and male) for bent or dirty contacts...also insure you have close to zero ohms of resistance from negative battery post to transmission case...A poor ground will cause a problem and be at times...saailer

2005 Chevy Equinox P0742 & P0700 problems. My car engine flares and sometimes doesn't change gears. Anyone know how to fix these issues.


Both codes (obviously) point to transmission related problems. The DTC P0700 means Transaxle Control System Fault Conditions and the DTC P0742 code means Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) - Stuck On.

The DTC P0700 code is for information only and the next step is to check for transaxle codes in the Transaxle Control Module (TCM). So you'll have to have the dealer or another qualified shop/technician pull the transaxle codes from the TCM and go from there.

On DTC P0742, Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Valve (TCC Sol. Valve) is a normally-open exhaust valve that is used with the Torque Converter Clutch Pulse Width Modulation Solenoid Valve (TCC PWM Sol. Valve) in order to control fluid acting on the converter clutch apply valve. The TCC Sol. Valve attaches to the transmission case assembly extending into the pump cover. When grounded (energized) by the Vehicle Control Module (VCM), the TCC Sol. Valve stops converter signal oil from exhausting. This causes converter signal oil pressure to increase and move the converter clutch apply valve against spring force and into the apply position. In this position, release fluid is open to an exhaust port and converter feed fluid fills the apply fluid circuit. The converter feed fluid applies the TCC. When the VCM no longer provides a ground path, the TCC Sol. Valve de-energizes and apply fluid exhausts, releasing the TCC.

Condition: Some customers may comment that the transmission shifts hard, a shudder/chuggle is felt on deceleration or the Service Engine Soon (SES) light is illuminated.

A technician may find DTC P0742 set. Customers with 4T80E transaxles may also comment on a "bump" feeling at approximately 61-68 km/h (38-42 mph) when they lift and then tip into the throttle. There may also be a concern of whine noise in 3rd or 4th gear with or without the Service Engine Soon light/message displayed and with DTC P0742 set.

Correction:
Note: DO NOT REPLACE THE VALVE BODY AND PUMP ASSEMBLY.

Important: This test is not applicable to the 4T80E transmission. Instead, replace the TCC PWM solenoid on vehicles with a 4T80E transmission using published procedures for the vehicle being serviced.

Perform one of the following diagnostics:
• Test drive the vehicle with the Tech 2® installed, Monitor TCC Release Pressure. The Status will be YES until TCC applies and then the display will read NO. If during acceleration the status remains NO and the upshifts are harsh and during deceleration the vehicle shudders during downshifts, suspect the TCC PWM solenoid.
• With the Tech 2 installed in the vehicle, start the engine. Build the vehicle on the Tech 2®. Apply and firmly hold the service brake. Place the transaxle in D4 and command Drive 3 with the Tech 2®. If the engine stumbles and/or stalls, suspect the TCC PWM solenoid.

Replace the TCC PWM solenoid using published procedures for the vehicle being serviced.

I have a 1998 honda accord v 6 iwant to sknow where it the tcc or torque converter clutch solenoid in the transmission case i have trouble code p 0740 tcc sol


I am having the same issues with my 98 Accord. The transmission in the car slipped and bucked for a long time, but now it is stuck in limp mode. Most opinions are that the car needs a transmission, but that is horrendously expensive for a 98, so I have been trying other remedies first.

Yesterday, I removed and cleaned the filters behind the lock control/shift solenoid (they were clogged solid), but the car is still more-or-less stuck in limp mode. The lock up control solenoid is the one on top of the transmission directly beneath the thermostat housing.

P0741 "Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid stuck off"
If the PCM detects high torque converter slip when the TCC is commanded ON, then DTC P0741 sets. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) controls the Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Valve (TCC Sol. Valve) Pulse Width Modulation (PWM). The solenoid controls the hydraulic fluid for TCC apply and release. When the TCC is applied, the engine is coupled directly to the transmission through the TCC. The TCC slip speed should be near 0.

The AXOD-E was renamed AX4S in 1993. In addition to the name change, improvements in the lubrication of the gearset and capacity upgrades were made. A centrifugal piston assembly was implemented in the intermediate clutch position to improve 1st-2nd and 2nd-1st shift quality and an increase in the clutch's durability was made on some models. High energy friction materials were also introduced. A new twin piston torque converter clutch (TCC) was introduced with the AX4S and the AX4N on some models. The transaxle pan on this model will sometimes read "AXOD Metric" since it's based on the AXOD transaxle. The data plate code for this transmission is "L."
Applications:
The Ford AX4S automatic transmission is a four-speed electronic overdrive transmission used in 1995 to 2000 Ford Windstar minivan. The transmission is also used in 1991 to 2003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable, and 1993 to 1995 Ford Taurus SHO models. The AX4S is a second-generation version of the AXOD and AXOD-E transmissions used in 1986 to 1991 Ford Taurus.

1989 Honda Civic hard starting and dies for no reason. Cooling fans not working. Trouble codes are #6 coolant, #10 air intake temp, #16 fuel injector. Can anyone lead me to a solution for these problems?

check your wiring for dirty connections or broken wires, you may have wires that are rubbed through or connectors that are not making full contact. you will need an ohm meter and check wires for continuity. a wiring diagram will be needed.

There are 4 solenoids in the transmission, they are all supplied 12V through a common pink wire, and grounded individually by the computer. There are two solenoids for the tcc, one is called the tcc application solenoid, the other is the tcc PWM (pulse width modulation) solenoid. I'm not positive, but I believe the PWM solenoid faciitates the smooth engagement and disengagement of the tcc, but the application solenoid controls the bulk of the hydraulic pressure. If you want to check the resistance of these solenoids, the application solenoid is grounded through the tan/black wire, so you should see aproximately 28 ohms resistance between the pink wire and the tan/blk wire as they go into the transmission. The tcc PWM solenoid should have a resistance of about 12 ohms and you would measure this between the pink wire and the brown wire. The transmission should be electrically disconnected when you do these tests.
