Your coils are weak. if you are using premium like you saying that you are, than I would look at your coils. do your coils have a gray dot on top?? if not, than put new coils inthere (with gray dot) and plugs, since those are due at 105k and you are almost there. coil life expectancy in a maxima is about 60-70k miles. Is the check engine light on?? if so what is the code??

Just bought a Sportster 883 2002. There's a rattle in the engine as I get higher up in rpms. Also the exhaust pops as I accelerate. Any idea as to what could be the deal. Carb maybe?

Ahhhh..the Sporty has a rattle...or is it a ping? If your popping through the exhaust, the timing could be off and running rich (Check Spark Plug for dark sooty layer) If your engine is pinging could be advanced timing... pre-ignition happens on acceleration or under a load...loose valves will make noise all the time

Do you have the CV Keihin still? Or are you running an aftermarket carburetor ? Like an S&S?

I just noticed a rattle when I shut off car...could it be a loose exhaust?

Might be Exhaust, but if Exhaust is loose , you usualy here a rattle when you are also driving the car on the road. Best to take Car to local Repairer , put Car on ramp , and take a look , as it could be something else that Rattles.

Rattle from car at 1900revs only when in gear

moving noise is very hard to find.

could well be exhaust shields,
did you take a rubber mallet and tap the parts (exh, end to end?)
bang ,rattle, bang , repeat
seen many bad CAT (brick inside loose) rattle. hit it. bingo. there you go.

i also jam objects in cat shelds to stop them for making noise.
just for temporary to find source.

2003 Ford F-150 4x4 5.4L with a valve rattle or pinging noise.

-Possibly valve has too much clearance
-If sound from the valve. Open cover and adjust to specification.

Loud engine knock sounds like theconnecting rods in a 3.5L v-6 2002 trooper

If the engine knock is coming from deep inside the engine, the I agree, the rod is knocking.
If the sound is coming from closer to the top, it could be a valve lifter or push rod you are hearing. This isn't as bad, they last longer and synthetic oil or oil treatment helps.
If this doesn't happen all the time, if it's occasional or you hear a pinging noise, you could just have a bad knock sensor.

How to set the ignition timing on a 2002 Mustang

TIMING IS ADJUSTED BY THE ENGINE CONTROL UNIT SO IT SHOULD'NT NEED ADJUSTING.ODDS ARE THAT YOU CAN'T GET RID OF EXHAUST FAST ENOUGH DUE TO A PLUGGED CONVERTER.

Rattle in my enging compartment (I think) when I accelerate

Check all your exhaust heat sheilds for that rattle. There should be a sight window on the trans housing thruogh a fender well.

Exhaust pinging

it is the exhaust actually cooling down, this is fairly normal especially in brand new vehicles or vehicles with new exhaust. the metal used in the exhaust expands with heat you shut the car off and the heat goes away so metal contracts. nice car by the way, my neighbor around the corner just bought a black one. good luck

04 Endeavor rattling noise

I had the same problem! I crawled underneath the car and discovered that a heat shield on the exhaust header pipe was corroded and rattling against the exhaust pipe. (Before the muffler)
I removed the portion and clamps and solved the problem. Give it a try.
