I think you are onto something. The thermostat in my opinion is too low causing the radiator to not cool enough before it is sent back into the motor. The block and the pistons are heating up causing it to run poorly. When was the last time you had your radiator flushed? ( I would have said that the headers are heating up the starter and this is causing the drain on the battery but you stated that once you get the car started it runs rough so i would have to rule the starter out.)

My 1981 Corvette will cold start, but when I try to restart it, it won't until it cools off.

sounds like you may have an over fueling problem. check for a leaking carb allowing fuel to run into the intake after shut down. have you checked to see if your missing spark when this happens. if not check if it could be a distributor component problem or coil.

Edelbrock 1406 3 years old on a Chevy 350 corvette. Starts and runs great when cold but when it heats up to running temp. and I shut off the engine it will not start!! Has great spark, compression, and fuel....

Check the choke and make sure that the choke is all the way open when hot. The choke should only be closed when cold. The choke can be adjusted on the side by loosening the 3 screws and wathcing the butterfly valve.

Drive gear on distributor wearing teeth off how

I would say if its happend more than once its a cam problem, but then again i don't know if the cam has been chg. to an aftermarket or if it is the stock cam and weather its an aftermarket distributor or a stock one, witch could play a part in your problem.

1974 corvette 4 barrel secondary will not kick in. How and where do the vacuum lines run to make it work? Vacuum diagram would really help. Thanks

The secondary operates via mechanical linkage, look around on the carb for linkage that has become disconnected

85 vette fuel injection fine after first cold start then runsroug

something wrong with mixture thats for sure, but only being a europeon mechanic without a lot of experiance on yank tanks iam not sure exactly what the problem could be ,but if one bank of injectors are not operating ??have you checked for a feed to the suspect bank ??(electrical)because in my eye if they operate when cold then stop when autochoke shuts off then its a fault with the ECU or a sensor on that bank??

92 dodge 318 truck engine runs til you stop, then stalls when put

2 or 4 barrel?
If auto choke, chk yhat for opening.
Msnifold vac fluctuating or thats just the range? Sounds a little high. neck time you start the motor, give the throttle a snap and vck the coke play position Cold running the choke should be 1/4 - 1/3 open. If you need info on how to adjust let me know Hot, or at operating temp, choke should be wide open. Good luck.

Battery light stays on

Many possibilities but the alternator is a good place to start, if its plug is loose, then the green relay inside the center console just to the left and slightly in front of the emergency brake will be clicking in connecting and disconnecting the battery( one loud click per time). It will need replacing or simply disconnecting works for the short budget.

350 chevy small block

Aftermarket intake, camshaft and either a good set of heads or port/polish what you have. If you go with a cam, go with more adv. duration and duration and .050. I like running a .525 lift, .230 dur. @ .050 and .292 advertised duration. Get a good set of springs and valves. This cam should get your redline around 6200. If you're using this engine on the street, I prefer the Performer RPM with a 1" spacer. This provides plenty of velocity to the heads. If you can find a set of camel hump heads, casting number 041 you'll love those or have your heads ported. I'd run a Edlebrock 1407 carb. with this set up if you're using it on the street. If you're using this engine for strip duty as well, use a single plane intake like a Victor Jr. Professional Products have a nice selection of single plane intakes for a very low price. I've bought one myself and really liked it.
