Question about 2004 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
My lift gate is locked and there is no way to open it !!!!! the manual talks about an emergency pull cable but i checked and it dose not exsist!!! PLZ HELP!!!
I have a similar problem I managed on repeated tries to get the latch mechanism to release. If you can do that, pull the plastic trim piece above the latch out. You'll see the actuator as a piece that slides horizontally. It's got a bellow-shaped cover over the spring that pulls it back. My old one didn't have a cable. I ordered a new one, which came with a cable that you can't reach unless you pull the trim I spoke of out (which you can only easily do if the trunk is open!!
Anyway, the latch mechanism didn't fix my problem, but cost me about $115 from a local dealer. My problem seems to be that the wire isn't fully energizing the latch mechanism. Put the new one in and boom, same problem. I will need to follow the wire to a point where there probably some corrosion going on that's causing this.
FYI: If you do order a new latch mechanism, you'll need to get yourself a Torx screwdriver or drill driver bit at the T-40 size. It's big. I bought the bit at my local ACE Hardware for about $2.
