My 1999 4runner (4cyl) has 130K miles, and is now getting a clicking noise (single click) when I try to start it- but not everytime- sometimes it starts right up. I'm thinking starter, but don't know where to begin and if I can do it myself- I'm pretty good with tools, and cash is tight for a mechanic right now...

Please trace the big wire that comes out from your red terminal of your battery. that is the positive of your battery. or the terminal with the "+" sign. this big wire is directrly connected to the starter of the engine. it is hooked up to your starter solenoid.

i hope i was able to solve your problem..

pls rate me..

tnx ,

Where is location of shift solenoid a located on 05 cobalt?

The shift solenoid valves are two identical, electronic exhaust valves that control upshifts and downshifts in all forward gear ranges. These valves are normally open. These shift solenoid valves work together in a combination of ON and OFF sequences in order to control the positions of the 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4 shift valve trains. The TCM monitors numerous inputs to determine the appropriate solenoid state combination and transmission gear for the vehicle operating conditions.
Remove the transmission side cover. Refer to Control Valve Body Cover Replacement . Remove the 1-2 shift solenoid retainer clip (304), the 1-2 shift solenoid (305) with O-ring (303), the 1-2 shift valve (302), and the 1-2 shift valve spring (301).
Remove the PNP switch. Refer to Park/Neutral Position Switch Replacement . Remove the transmission upper side cover bolts. Install the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture in Engine Mechanical. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information. Remove the left front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels. Remove the left inner fender liner. Refer to Front Fender Liner Replacement in Body Front End. Remove the wheel drive shaft from the transmission. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Wheel Drive Shafts. Remove the power steering gear mounting bolts. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement in Power Steering. Remove the frame. Refer to Frame Replacement in Frame and Underbody.
This is a tough repair an needs special tools to do it . your best bet is take it to AAMCO

Need to know where the starter is located

Most likely on the left hand side of the motor near the transmmission. Find the big red wire and follow it. It will end up at the starter.

How to remove and replace transmission in 1999 plymouth voyager van

VAN NEEDS TO BE ON A LIFT AND IN NEUTRAL/REMOVE BATTERY/REMOVE FT.WHEELS/BOTH CV DRIVE AXLES/STARTER/LABEL AND REMOVE ALL WIRING CONNECTORS CONNECTED TO THE TRANS...(BE SURE TO LABEL WHERE ALL WIRING CONNECTORS GO SO YOU WILL KNOW FOR SURE WHERE THEY GO WHEN YOU RE-INSTALL NEW TRANS)...YOU CAN ALSO TAKE PHOTO'S IF YOU HAVE NO WAY TO LABEL THEM.ALSO BE SURE ALL NUMBERS AND LETTERS ON NEW TRANS MATCH OLD TRANS.
AFTER ALL WIRING IS DISCONNECTED REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER PLATE TO REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER BOLTS...OR SOME CAN BE REMOVED FROM STARTER LOCATION.
REMOVE ANY ENGINE COMPONENTS/RADIATOR/COOLING FAN/DOGBONE MOUNTS/SKID PLATES EXHAUST SYSTEM ANYTHING IN THE WAY BUT BE POSITIVE OF LOCATION TO RE-ASSEMBLE IN CORRECT ORDER..etc..
NEXT BE SURE IT IS SECURE FROM TOP AND BOTTOM FOR SAFETY BEFORE REMOVAL,...
IT IS BEST TO USE ENGINE HOIST AND A TRANS JACK FOR SAFETY...IF IT IS FT. WHEEL DRIVE.REMOVE BOLTS THAT MOUNTS IT TO ENGINE....REMOVE TRANS/RE-INSTALL IN REVERSE ORDER...........FOR FT.WHEEL DRIVE.

Clutch installation maual for 2000 ford focus ZX3

Don't have manual but here;

the clutch is located between the engine and transmission. Therefore you must separate the engine from the transmission to gain access to the clutch.

This is much more difficult on a front wheel drive vehicle.

On most front wheel drive vehicles the easiest way to this is to remove the engine and transmission as a unit. However on a front wheel drive vehicle the engine and transmission come out from the bottom. You disconnect all of the hoses, wiring, linkage, etc just like on a rear wheel drive vehicle. You disconnect the suspension and steering. You disconnect the front "K" member (front sub frame). Then if you have everything disconnected properly you lift the body off of the drive train. You can then separate the engine from the transmission and service the clutch. You reverse your steps to reinstall the engine.

As you can see this is much more involved than accessing the clutch on a rear wheel drive truck where the transmission can be removed without removing the engine.

There are a few front wheel drive GM vehicles I have seen where the "K" member can be removed in pieces. On these vehicles you only remove half of the "K" member and you can remove the transmission without removing the engine. Not sure if this is possible on a Ford.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. 2.2L Engine remove protective shields as needed then remove front exhaust pipe. Remove the brace from the engine to the clutch housing, then disconnect starter wiring. 4.3L Engine 2 wheel drive just remove the right front tire and you will have access to the wiring. 4.3L Engine 4 wheel drive you must remove the differential carrier shield if equipped then remove the starter bolts and rotate the starter to get access to the wiring. Good Luck.
