My cluster is screwy too. The light doesnt work, but the gear display doesnt work at all.. i have to count gears to get into the right one.. not a big deal. The big deal is that it will go into reverse from nuetral.

Hello my name thomas and i am a first year apprentice mechanic

if it is a fuse it will be in the fuse compartment inside he car other wise u will need to the t bar of your gear stick and there will be a couple screws in the glove box and the 1 or 2 screws on both the drivers side and passenger side of the console the console should lift up and back the there should be 4 screws on the gear display and there will be a plug that hold your globe.

I have a 1999 Audi A6 quattro my right brake light went out I went to to switch the bulb and the bulb was OK but wont come on now I can't put my shift gear into gear without turning my lights on

There's should be a shift interlock that prevents it from being put into gear unless the brakes are on; check if the fuse it good for the brake lights; it seems to somehow be tied in with the parking lights, which may be feeding into the brake light circuit.

Instrument control panel gear position light is out

check your fuse on the instrument cluster and light. And it is probably your stop brake switch needs to be replaced. Just had to do the stop brake switch on 95 chevy suburban. the brake light and tail lights weren't working, had to get the switch now works. good luck I hope this helps you.

if the car does not shift out of park, check all your fuses first, try checking the brake fuse first, when you step on the brake pedal it releases the shifter, if it doesnt shift into the gears you most likely blew a fuse

I have an automatic gear shift console light bulb that needs replacement. It's a 1998 Toyota Corolla. I already removed the two side screws and two compartment bolts to get the two console pieces apart....

That is a very tough bulb to replace. Once you get the center console pieces out of the way there should be a couple of screws or blots that hold down the trim around the gear shift. Remove those and lift gentley. You will barley be able to access the bulb. but it can be done.

Break lights don't work, shift is locked out!

Since these are all electrical, I suggest you look at the fuses. I am sure you will find one burned out. I would guess that you replaced the bulb while the power was on, and that is not a good idea. It is easy to blow a fuse by doing that. If you put the bulb in wrong, it is possible it may keep blowing fuses as well. Make sure is it seated correctly, if this is the kind that rotate.

ABS light, gear won't change

Sounds like he may have blown the brake light fuse while messing with the bulb. Make sure the correct bulb is installed. It should be a double filament bulb not a single. The wrong bulb will blow the fuse.
The shift lock solenoid uses the brake light switch to unlock.
The ABS code will be for the brake light system and will clear itself when the power is restored to the brake light switch.

Radio lights no longer work, does not show the station etc...

Internal bulb has failed. there is no fuse to replace yourself.
A good electronics repair shop should get you back on track for about $20USD.

Lights have gone out on dash console and gear console.

From my experience you are better off if you take it to a shop and have a professional take the instrument cluster apart. Especially on newer cars this is something best left to the pros.
