Hi I have a 1991, E30, 4 dr, the windows were all working fine - but just recently they have all stopped working unless one of the front doors is open - in which case they all work fine ? - strange, can anyone help with this please
Somewhere around switches,fusses,or relay of el.windows is bad connection on earth (-) pol en they get it from the door switches in which case they work fine just like you say-I JUST HAVE SIMILAR PROBLEM AND PROBLEM SEEM TU BE RELAY

there may be separate relay for these stuffs which you mentioned as not working.check this relay if burnt out replace it and check.
2. check the fuses.weather all in good condition.if not replace and check it.
3.check the wires going to these gadjets.weather damaged.
actually you have thought of all but the prob. The track has jumped, making the motor not move the window. Sometimes you can gently slide the window up by hand and then the motor will catch the track and finish rolling the window up
the motor has an armature inside that rotates.if it stops on the bad spot,it will draw alot of current.the armature has copper plates with a very fine separation between them.after a while the brushes wear the copper down and it can bridge 2 together.the motor will still run,until one brush stops right where the 2 plates meet.if you bang on it it will work too sometimes.
