Could it be as simple as a bad spark plug or wire?

  • mazdampv Jul 23, 2008

How can a find the firing order for a 2002 Mazda MPV? I want to try and replace the coil pack for cylinder 3 as well as all 6 spark plugs to see if this will fix the problem.

  • mazdampv Jul 24, 2008

Do you know the order for a 2002 Mazda MPV? I found online that it's 1-2-3-4-5-6, but what does that exactly mean? Is the 1-2-3 cylinder towards the front of the car or the 3 in the back and do you count it from left to right or up and down?

I have a problem in cylinder # 5 is misfiring.

  • Anonymous Oct 02, 2008

Engine light is on. Engine shaking. I have tested the cylinders, it says #5 misfire. I have replaced the spark plugs, no improvement.

I want to replace #5, but I dont know the order of the cylinders. Any body can help me by telling me the order the cylinders are in?

Not just one cylinder misfiring, two or three. Was told two years ago when I had the same problem that it was a "design flaw" . Spark plug panel too close to firewall. Mazda should be stepping up to the plate to fix this.

If the head gasket is leaking, shouldn't there be water on the ground under the car?

Determine if you're losing water from the radiator. Do a compression test onn the cylinders to see if it's low. If the compression tester starts jumping up and down when you place it in #3, chances are really high that you have a leaking head gasket. It may be blowing back and forth in the cylinder next to it. This is a common problem with these engines.

You can check it by switch the plug wire to the other side of the engine and basically you're going to see if you can move the miss to the other side of the engine. If the miss stays where it's at, make sure the spark plug is tight. If no change, head gasket is leaking.

All you have to do is replace the plugs one at a time, this way you don't distrub the order.

get a tune up yet, even $1.49 spark plugs?
no its not the trans,
if it dont slip, its not trans, (see RPM races? that is slip or too low gear)
if it shifting to the right gears, its not the trans can you count them?
is the CEL lamp glowing or flashing driving, is yes, that means
scan me now. in fact scanning while it shudders, is like (magic)
why start guessing, do a tuneup,
then scan it.
if its is misfire the PCM will tell you what cylinder misfires.

are your spark plugs 6 years old, if yes, why?
going for 200k miles on them.?

Sounds like he has it sorted. Get it thoroughly checked over for bad leads, poor compression on one or more cylinders, valve or valve gear damaged. Its 15 years old, has it been regularly serviced? What mileage has it done? Is there oil in the water or water in the oil leading to the head gasket leaking. Something which happens after running without proper coolant which rots the gasket.

Suzuki swift used to tick over at 800 revs, now ticking over between 600 and 800 revs, engine shudders a bit

which engine, what year.?
egr struck open , partially is #1 cause of low idle
and never getting a tuneup.

the ECU, does all it can to hold 800, hot, all day,no matter what.
will fail if:
1: not tuned up, called misfire. (shudders is misfire)
2: too lean (low fuel pressure.)
3: leaking injectors, more misfire. (or clogged)
4: egr stuck open a tad, or stalls if open fully.
5: ISC stuck closed.

Check engine light comes on and car idle's and drives with a shudder around 2500 rpms. First time check engine light came on put it on computer and said it was misfiring, so changed plugs and plug wires...

I found this; if it helps.
The injectors need to be cleaned, if an engine is experiencing any of the classic symptoms of dirty injectors, such as lean misfire, rough idle, hesitation and stumbling on light acceleration, a loss of power, and higher hydrocarbon (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) emissions.
Lean misfire may also trigger a misfire code and turn on the Check Engine light on 1996 and newer vehicles with OBD II systems. The code often will be a P0300 random misfire code, or you may find one or more misfire codes for individual cylinders, depending on which injectors are most affected.
