I just purchased this truck n it smells like it is running hot?

check fuses and relays -engines smells hot [all engines put out heat and smell hot ]could be nothing the engine could be running correctly or test the temperature sensor ,fan motors and fan circuit --if smells hot because of leak look for leak have coolant system pressure tested

Sometimes people will run over a plastic bag and it will melt on the hot exhaust pipe and cause to smell.

If vehicle running hot make sure coolant level is full. If ok, you will need to look at the thermostat operation and fan operation. The fuel smell may be due to a hot engine

If you smell steam/water/antifreeze inside the vehicle, then most likely you have a heater core issue. If it is more 'overheating' smell outside of the vehicle, it could be overflow container leaking on hot parts, leaking hose, radiator leak, etc.

Check your valve cover gaskets, bet they are leaking and that is burning off.

The smell is most likely the anti-freeze you smell. You may need a new overflow cap, which over time will not hold pressure like it should and can cause you engine to run hot and lose coolant. It could be the water pump leaking, a hose leaking. Can you see where you may be losing coolant at? How often does it run hot? Do you have to re-fill after it runs hot. If you not having to add coolant, then your thermostat may be bad or the water pump. But losing coolant could be the overflow cap or a hose, and let's not forget the radiator could have a small hole or split somewhere. It's a matter of finding out where or what are it is leaking in.

You may have either a gas leak or the evaporative canister on the emission control system is saturated. The canister cannot be dried out and must be replaced. This is part of the system to reduce toxic emissions and although may not be important, it is part of the road rules to maintain. You can purchase a replacement canister and fit it yourself. If this is a leak, then the only way to trace it is to run the car until hot with the bonnet up or clamp off the pressure regulator and run the fuel pump whilst examining the fuel lines for signs of wetness and gas smell.

You may have a bad thermostat or a weak water pump or a clogged radiator. Smell does not indicate if its hot. The gauge or coolant light might suggest its getting hot. You may have a fuel control issue that is overheating the catalytic converter which would smell or an oil leak that is dripping onto a hot surface causing a smell. You may have a real small coolant leak that you cant see that could cause this also.

your tranmission is sticking causing the engine to work harder thus making it run hot.

If your engine is running hot, yes that could cause light to come on, as well as a strange smell. Have it checked a.s.a.p. otherwise it could cost you a lot of money, if it hasn't already. Don't drive it if it's running too hot. Make sure you add coolant as needed before you try anything.
