Have that entire assembly rebuilt and be done with it. Those are a major pain if you've never done one before, and I speak form experience. PS The "clear tab" lever could be stuck or broken...accordianman

neoprene gear in transmission were the speedometer cable goes into transmission should not have a dished appearance if you pulll it out of transmission look at it from the side it should appear flat from the start of the gear to end of gear no dish down in center

Yes it is. They will need to be drilled out. Thats the best way, some people try to put bolts on, but I dont advise it.

Stuck odometer - how do I fix- speedometer works fine and cruise control too.

Since everything else is still working, your odometer just crapped out. This is very common on the Vics/ Marquis that utilize the mechanical style odometer. I've had two of them (1989 and 1991 Grand Marquis) where the odometer failed. You will need to remove the odometer from the instrument cluster and either replace it with a new unit (good luck with that) or send it out to be repaired. There's a guy that does this specific type of repair, search the Internets and you'll find him.

Side note: Since it was only the main and not trip odometer that failed on my two Panthers, I learned my lesson the second time around and just kept track of my mileage using my trip odometer and a pen and paper in the glove box. A lot easier than tearing the dash apart at the time. If it happened now on my current car ('94 Vic LX), I would fix it. It's not a really hard repair if you know what you're doing or can find someone who does to give you a hand.

Rear and interior dashboard lights don't work 1994 Crown Vic.

Easy stuff first. Try replacing the #9 fuse on the interior fuse panel. This fuse protects the instrument panel, license, parking and tail light circuits. The panel is located under the dash to the left of the steering column. You will need to pry off the cover on the panel to access the fuses. The fuse you want is a 15 amp fuse located directly under the turn signal flasher. It should be easy to figure out which fuse it is because it will be 'blown' or open. This is easy to determine just by looking at the fuse once it's removed. And, if you aren't sure what's what, I'm sure you can find a diagram of this fuse panel somewhere on the Internets if you look around a little. I took this info out of the Owner Manual from my own '94 Vic. If this doesn't solve the problem I would suggest taking your Vic to a shop and letting them take a look at it.

The odometer crapped out on me again. I got about 5K miles on the replacement and now... plastic gears that run it can't take the wear I guess, suggestions?

I had a 1994 Crown Vic and 165000 miles on it and never a problem with speedo. You need to replace the cable and the gear next time. I guess you know to get the correct transmission plastic gear for your size differential.
If the part keeps getting chewed up the drive gear in the trans must be chipped.

Speedometer and odometer does not work in 1998 Crown Vic police interceptor

Either the speed sensor,or the dash cluster is of fault. Have Auto Zone test the speed sensor,if ok ,,, I would replace the cluster ( buy used ) much cheaper.
Please rate this.

Odometer indicator not working for buick century custom 2001 about 1 week ago, in the middle of a trip, my odometer stopped reading miles. the push button where u can reset your trip miles is not counting...

OdometerGears.com has the gears for you to repair the odometer. If the odometer and the tripometer are stacked you will need and E20= 20 tooth gear and a 16 tooth medium pod. If the odometer and tripometer are split left to right you will need 2 drive and 2 worm gears. Give them a call and they will offer you a discount for the four gears. The total for two gears is $54.00 and for the four gears is $89.00 both prices include the shipping.
