How do you check da transmission fluid on my 1997ford thunderbird

Your car should be running, in Neutral, with the wheels chocked and your parking brake on (safety first). Then simply pull out the stick with the vehicle running in neutral to check the fluid level. Any amount in the hatched area is acceptable. DO NOT overfill and only fill as needed. Make sure the engine is up to normal operating temperature before checking the level

OK, so is it still setting the codes? Or has that gone away with the transmission harness repair? The idle is controlled by the Idle Air Control (IAC) solenoid. Ford has had a lot of trouble with these. However, the symptom is usually low idle speeds that cause the engine to stall. I think I would be looking for vacuum leaks. Ford 4.6L engines are notorious for the PCV hoses leaking at the elbow where it connects to the back of the throttle body.

I have an electonic four wheel drive in my chevy truck and it is now not coming out of 4 low. Can any one offer some advice

Check your fuses first and then turn your ignition to the on position, engine not running. Set your parking brakes and place transmission to neutral, then try to shift your transmission out of 4 low.
Remember, transmission in neutral, engine not running and then try to shift it out of 4 low to 4 hi or 2wd. You should hear the encoder motor on your transfer-case click to shift it out of 4 low. If you don't hear it working, then it's ether electrical issues if the fuse is good or the encoder motor it self when bad and will need to be replaced.
Thank you for using fixya and be safe.

Transmission will not shift out of park. I pushed brake and the shifter will not move from park with the button on side of shifter pushed in.

CHECK FUSE TO BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH - NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH AND BRAKE TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK SOLENOID.IF BRAKE LIGHTS WORKS.YOUR PROBLEM COULD BE THE BRAKE TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK SOLENOID OR BAD NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH.MAKE SURE NEUTRAL SWITCH FUSE IS GOOD.

there may be an idle adjustment on the idle air control valve but what happens if you come to a stop and place trans in neutral before complete stop ???

point is that you could be looking at just an adjustment or possible internal transmission problem

Sounds like a bad IAC (idle air control valve/sensor) that controls your idle when going from throttle to idle. If bad your idle will act crazy and can cause stalls easily. Pretty sure that's it.
