Question about Mazda Protege

1 Answer

I have a 1999 mazda protege 1.6 liter and the car was driving fine until about 4 days ago. it acts like its not getting gas especially on an inclined road. it jerks and acts like its gonna run out of gas or stall. my friends dad who is a mechanic told me that it may be the fuel filter but my fuel filter is on the fuel pump which is in the gas tank. so we checked it out and theres nothing wrong with the filter or pump. so im thinking that its the catalytic converter. whats up?

My car has a similar problem, if you take it to AutoZone or Advance Auto Parts they will usually scan it for codes at no charge. My problem is a bad Map Sensor. Hope this helps.

I have a 01 mazda protege. When im driving, it acts like it wants to cut off for a second then drive fine for a while. Also cut off at a stoplight.

check the fuel filter for clogging up. if a fuel filter gets bad it will lack power and it will stall at stops. when starting engine up, the debris is on bottom of filter. as you drive, if its bad it will continue to plug up.

This sounds like it may be as simple as cleaning the water or gunk out of the gas tank which is what I always do 1st because it's easy and inexpensive.

If your fuel is contaminated with gunk, grime, water and/or bottom junk like rust this will cause the problems your having!

Fill the tank with High Test, Add some dry gas and a good fuel system cleaner or 2 or 3 and this should dissolve all the gunk and clean the injectors!

Read & follow the cans' instructions carefully.

If this cures the problem never let your gas tank get below 1/4 and especially never run it to empty as this is when the gunk and/or water will enter the system!

try changing the temp sensor... it might be behind your air hose... i had that same problem and i changed so much stuff and it ended up just being that sensor... it was the water temp sensor.
