On the 07 silverado smell comeing through the heat vent

If you're going through 1/2 gallon every few weeks - you've got a leak. Since you smell it from the heater vents - it may very well be the heater core ($$$) that is leaking. Usually, you'll notice that the windows will fog up heavily as the coolant is very hot / steamy once the engine has warmed up fully.

Look for coolant puddles under the truck to get an idea as to where it is leaking from. If closer to the front bumper - it's probably not the heater core - if closer to the firewall - it could be the heater core.

My Alero has been leaking coolant heavily for the last few months. It has been checked for leaks in all hoses surrounding radiator, the system has been flushed and refilled, water pump replaced,...

if you need a quik fix, try aluma seal, maybe use 2 , just add them to your coolant and run engine till warms up, sometimes you need to use longer before leak stops. it is relatively inexpensive and available anywere you find automotive parts, or try another qualty rad stop leak. when you checked for leaks before did you have system under full pressure?

I have a 1996 jeep cherokee 2wd 4.0L and it is leaking coolant quiet heavily from between where engine and trans meet. Top of the trans is dry. Coolant is coming from inside bell housing between engine and...

Yes, in back of your engine block, there two freeze plugs, these plugs hold water or coolant in the block, to replace these freeze plugs, transmission will have to be remove, if your going to get this done, I would also have the rear main seal replace at the same time, should not cost you much labor to do this, due to if it starts to leak oil from there in the future, transmission will have to come out again, this will save you money and time down the road, hope this was very helpful.

Steam from under hood at idle.

My '97 CR-V would get hot enough at idle to evaporate rainwater on the hood, but I've never had steam come out from under the hood that wasn't one of these few solutions:

1. Coolant system leak in which the coolant is somehow being leaked or displaced onto a very hot engine component such as the exhaust manifold.

2. EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system failure in which fumes (and thus 'steam' or 'steam-like' discharge) are being introduced under the hood.

3. Exhaust leak near the engine.

4. Some (all?) vehicles cycle the A/C compressor whilst the selctor is in the DEFROST position. Is it possible that some condesate from the evaporator is spilling onto hot underhood engine parts?

5. Failure of supply hose to windwhield washer jets, usually caused by alcohol drying out the hose. Then, the washer fluid leaks on the hot engine, causing steam.

Check closely under there, I bet you find the problem.
