Car losing power and turning off

This just happened recently. i was driving on the freeway and all of the sudden my car turned off. The lights on the dashboard came on including my check engine light. I pulled over and tried to turn the car on. The turned over but wouldn't start. Waiting 30 seconds and it started right up light nothing had happened, but the check engine light stayed on. I was taking it to the dealership but when I turned on the car the check engine light was no longer on. I changed my oil, but i was also told that my ignition wire are worn and arching. Since this has happened my car has done the same thing about 5 times, with the check engine light going away. Sometimes when I try to turn my car on it won't start and then after a couple of tries it finally starts up, the check engint light comes up and if I go faster than 25 miles the car start to back fire, hesitate, and chugg. I pull over, turn off the engine and start it up again and the car starts up right away but with the check engine light on as always and then it goes away after a day. Sorry I wrote so much but wanted to get everything out.

If your car is 2003+ try turning the key to run (but not crank) then to acc. 3 times and the engine codes will show up on the odometer, then you can look up what those codes are to help diagnose some of the problems.

are you losing electrical power when the car while driving it? like head lights or turn signal or radio. if so it is probably the the terminal conections on your battery. it happened to me with my saturn. and turned out it was corrosion inside the pos. battery cable. when the cable got hot it caused resistance and loss of voltage to the engine.

if you don't have a gas cap on the car or if it is on too loosely then that is a possibility. Only other thing I could think of would be water in your fuel. You may try a bottle of "heat" (I think that is how you spell it) at your local auto parts store and chunk it in the gas can. if there were any problems with water that should be the cure.

the problem is probably one of the battery cables. check for looseness and corrosion. especially at the positive battery connection where the two cables are stacked.

Randomly loses power and sometime dies

1st thing to do is have the system tested for the code that caused the check engine light to come, you may also have a fuel pump starting to fail or many other things, the check engine light may be the key. How many wiles on the car?
