The driver's side seat is moved up close to the steering wheel and we can't get it to move back. the seat will move up and down just not forward or back ( as is our case).

I had to keep mine pushed to the rear and wiggle it up and down.

Look underneath your seat and on the left side towards the middle of the car there is a small hose looking under there make sure it did not come lose, if it did just plug it back on. this might fix the problem.

Removing front passenger seat

Move the seat all the way to the rear to access the front two bolts, then move the seat all the way to the front to access the rear two bolts. Don't forget to unplug any electrical connectors before removing the seat as to avoid damaging connectors or wiring.

1997 Sable Driver Seat Only Moves 2 Inches At A Time

Could be the switch, but it sounds like the motor is going bad. However, I dont know if you tried to lubricating the tracs. Some of these seats are on ball bearings and some on nylon bushings, either way they need to be lubricated once in a great while. Have you tried to help the seat to move by pushing in the direction it is going to see if it speeds up. If so, the seat motor is going out or the tracks are binding up. I hope this helps.

Remove front seat from 2005 ford five hundred

Move the seat all the way forward and remove the two bolts going into the cross bar in the back. Move the seat all the way back and remove the plastic covers where the front feet of the seat meet the floor. Remove the two bolts going into the floor. Lean the seat back and disconnect the electrical connectors.Lean the seat sideways so that the outside part is facing up and remove the nut holding the seatbelt to the seat and take off the seatbelt. The seat is now free to be removed from the car.

Drivers seat 2000 outback

So here is a diagram of the seat circuitry for your car. Since every other function works except the forward/backward slide function, that leaves basically the forward/backward slide motor, the seat switch, and/or the wiring. If you can verify that the wiring under the seat is in good condition without obstructions, chaffed wires, and/or wires pulled too tight, then it's safe to say it's down to just the motor and/or the switch. Sometimes if the passengers front seat has the same switch, you can plug it in to the drivers' side connector and see what works and what doesn't. If the seat works fine with the other switch, then that's all it needs, if not then it will need a motor. If the other seat doesn't have a switch then you can find them at wrecking yards, or just supply power and ground to the motor in question to see if it works. If it does, then you know you kneed a switch and if not then a motor.
I hope this info helps!~subyguru~

I pulled the seat all the way forward on my 1990 Mercedes 420 see and it will not go back. When I push the seat back button I hear a faint click but no movement. My passenger seat doesn't make a noise...

use the buttons to move it back but shake the seat side to side. sounds like your track on the seat has gotten in a bind with the one on the floor. just wiggle and jiggle till it starts to move and dont go all the way forward in the future

Front driver seat only moves apx. 2" back from the front of the track. Fuses are good. Back of seat controls work. The pre sets do not move the seat back.

Make sure there is nothing obstructing the seat from under the seat track.Sometimes things fall down there and will jam the seat track.Move the seat up all the way and look it over real good under the seat.Hope this helps.
