Question about 2006 Pontiac G6

1 Answer

I opened my gas tank to put in fuel yesterday and there was a green-like film around the gas cap and the opening to my tank. Is this something I should be concerned about? The car has 21K miles on it. Thank you.

Green film does not indicate anything wrong with the car. It is posible that someone tried to, or did put something in the tank to make the car not run. If car starts, and runs OK, i would not worry about it. Just clean the substance from the cap and opening and keep an eye out for any engine running problems. Tech JK

Fuel tank will not take fuel

When you put the nozzle into the gas tank there is a small plate/valve that should open when touched by the fuel nozzle. It sounds as though this valve/plate isn't moving aside when touched by the fuel nozzle.

Remove the fuel cap and try moving it with a pencil or something - free it.

Check engine light reads i have moisture in the evap system

if it drives good, why not just ignore it ,till spring
(usa answer) its 85F here.

its the gas tank venting system.
learn to use a real scan tool
then post the DTC errors or savvy persons can wax smarter

in bad weather evap systems are in fact noted for there malfuctionig or flat out lies.
try to imagine when the fuel tank, goes from hot to cold
the gas cap ,vacuumbreaker opens and sucks in fresh moisture laden air, and then that vapor, freezes.
no power on earth can stop that. (key off)
wait till spring and stop worry.
or post errors.
we can work single word fails ever,"evap"

no starts
open gas cap
put back cap
and start car
run now.?

if not scan it while cranking, omg dTC errors. try not to guess
read the errors, lots can fail cold.
does engine start using spray test fuel method?
if yes, its fueling issue
cap is first. on tank filler, those too can freeze and fail, all by thereselves..(vacuum breaker faILURE)

Car cranks but wont start. Gas Cap?

no there is not but the seal on the tank may be damaged.. also check that the breath line inter the tank to the top of the tank side has not been messed around with as this helps the fuel get to the engine. the seal on the tank should cover the neck of the tank to stop spills in the event off a crash. the breather line is opened and closed by the engine running. when some one is trying to steal fuel and they cannot get the cap off the get under and cut the breather pipe as you can suck out the fuel from there if you have a full tank.

Gas tank lid wont close

The flap in the fuel filler pipe will not affect the vehicle if it's open or closed or not there at all. There is air in the gas tank at all times displacing the gas as you use the fuel.

My 2004 caviler had a lifter tick so i changed the oil and the next day it will not start. the starter cranks but the engine just doesnt start almost like its out of gas but i know its not

is the car getting any fuel, have you removed the black air duct that goe's to the throttle body, and then operate the throttle in an open position to see if you are getting any fuel, if no fuel is present, open up the gas door [ this is where you put gas into the tank , and remove the gas cap, and have someone, or yourself put your ear down toward the gas cap opening, and have someone to turn the ignition key on but not to try and start it, then listen to see if you hear a humming sound coming from the gas tank, if no sound, then check under the hood, on drivers side in a black box that contains fuses and relays, check to see if any fuses are blown, and also check the starter relay, and the fuel pump relay. if there is a humming sound coming from the gas tank opening, then, i would replace the fuel filter, this is only if you didn't get any fuel, and everything else checked out ok.

Car problems

If you change your oil twice a year in that car your valves should be fine. I think it's your fuel filter. If the valves were stuck they'd get bent and you'd be smoking, the car would be knocking and it would barely start and run at all. The fuel filter is a stinky job, do it outdoors. Open your gas cap first to relieve the pressure in the tank or you'll get a little squirt of gas all over your hand. You will anyway, but it won't be so bad.
