Question about 1992 Dodge Dakota

1 Answer

I have a 1993 dodge dakota v8 pickup with a very strange intermittent problem .I can be driving and the engine will just shut down like turning off the ignition.I can crank it over and over and it will not start.Yet I can go back two or three hours later and it will start and may start and run fine for a week or two.I have taken it to two different shops, the ignition switch ,and coil have been replaced. Both shops say they have to catch the problem when it s happening.Any suggestions? Thanks.

my problem is just like this one. I have replaced the fuel filter and the comlplete pump unit in the tank the coil is fine as well . starts idles for about 10 minutes and dies. go back later it will start and run for about 5 blocks and die while driving. Try to start , but wont . go back 20 minutes will start fun for a day or two then do same thing. Im so frustraited. No it wont start at all just turn over.

Same problem, '91 dodge dakota, just had fuel filter changed and wiring to ignition completely redone. Car tends to just "lose power" while driving while all electrical remains on.

I have the exact same problem and would love for it to be solved, except mine has a minor detail attached. If i pop the hood and then slam it while cranking it(not THAT hard) or almost immediately crank it after slamming hood, it will start back up usually.

i have had mechanics look at it and say it looks fine that they can't diagnose what is wrong with what i tell them, but there is nothing more to it, it just shuts off.

i drive a 1992 Dodge Dakota v8 pickup (also i have a 600 watt amplifier connected, a friend of mine claims this could be making the problem)

1995 dodge Dakota 5.2 v8. Will die for no reason may start and run but not long. I have replaced fuel pump coil new plugs and wires and map sensor? ????

Dakotas are notorious for this issue, and it doesn't seem to matter what engine they have. They have a tendency to have the crankshaft position sensor intermittently fail. This causes the engine to shut off without warning as though you turned the key off. Sometimes they restart immediately, but they often need anywhere from 15 minutes to a couple of hours to work again. They often do not set a Check Engine Code. The sensor is relatively inexpensive and fairly easy to change. It is a better option that "Easter egging" sensor after sensor, only to have no joy.

I can't get the engine computer unpluged to replace, screw is spinning , I have been prying off only to be breaking plastic plug 1993 dodge dakota, 5.2 auto

Just take patience,The screw that attatches the ECM does not pop out, once you get the screw spining your done on the side is a tab press and pull the connector out,it is not adviseable that you pull it by the wire harness, but in your case do it gently

'96 Dodge Dakota will crank, but won't run.

a bad crank sensor or dist pickup plate can cause this.... check the fuses in the fuse block under the hood for any blown ..... a bad auto shut down relay may cause it .....try putting a test light on the green and orange wire and see if it lights up when you try to crank it
