I am not trying to be mean but the fact you are asking is a good sign you should either buy a shop manual from an auto store for $40 +/- (illustrated step by step instructions) or let someone trained do it for you. The process is straight forward but some people still manage to mess something up.

2002 impala firing on five cyl why is that its running on five not six

Most obvious thing to check is the path from the distributer to the plug.
Start by removing lead from plug. Insert a nail or any metal object into the lead and rest it near to but not touching the metal of the block. If a spark leaps across to the block, then it could be the plug.
If no spark try swapping one of the other leads for the one that is not working. If the swapped lead now sparks with the inserted nail then it could be the lead.
This test will elliminate the spark plug and the lead for starters.
If this does not find the fault examine the distributer cap inside.
Good idea to wear rubber gloves to avoid shocks.

89 gmc jimmy 5.7L it gets spark from coil to distributer but not from distributer to motor. Spark plugs and wires are brand new, module is fine, cap and rotor is fine.

if im correct in saying this, i think there is a small cylindrical looking piece with one wire comming out from the front in the distributer under the distributer cap next to the points this is could a condenser you could try changing this for a new one all so check the gape your points make if to small you will get no spark as well if to big

How do I set the distributor on a 2000 gmc jimmy? Just changed the intake gaskets, but forgot to mark the position of the rotor.

Get the number one piston up, Take the spark plug out the first one on the drivers side.Rotate the engine until the piston reaches TDC before it starts to decend back. U can use a screw driver to put in the spark plug hole. The rotor must point towards the number one spark plug. your local library will have this infor or autozone

Number 1 cyl not firing no spark

Change the spark plug. If that doesn't work change the HT lead from the plug to the distributer. If that doesn't help then check the distributer cap is not cracked and replace.

check to see if your getting spark, if you are make sure your getting fuel. if no spark check coil primary resistance it should be from 1 to 3 ohms. if your not getting spark it can only be a primary ignition problem not a secondary one, example plugs, plug wires. if you are getting spark but no fuel. pull fuel pump relay and jumper wire together #30 and #87 teminals diagnally across from each other under the relay you just pulled out good luck!!!

Cant get any spark

You're not getting spark out of the ignition coil? Do you have power to the coil? What about ground? If you have spark from the coil to the distributer, but nothing coming out of the distributer, then check your cap and rotor.

Car dies or loses power while driving. Changed out, spark plugs, wires, battery, fuel pump, fuel filter, distributer cap. Not sure what else to check.

My 1995 died after rain storms and high humidity,my mechanic changed the distribution cap, the wires and ignition and its find now 181,000 and still going strong.
