Question about Volvo XC70

1 Answer

Doesn't want to shift into the next gear when accelerating. occasionally has failed to go into gear (initially from a dead stop) car whines out, then once it settles back down to an idle it will go, with gradual acceleration.

Thanks Mook76. I thought it could be the sensors. Do you think it could also be the the software needs updating?

Speed sensors in the tranny may be bad or the tranny itself is going.

What is making this 08 caliber 2.0L sxt cvt have a High pitched whining sound at idle and driving?

Possible bearing in one of the drive pulleys. I have changed numerous alternators for this noise. Take the belt off and start the car. If the noise goes away you know it will be pulley related and not transmission related. If noise goes away, spin all pulleys by hand to determine the defective/noisy one

2004 Pacifica whining noise

your belt is not tightened. you should go back to the garage and ask them to do so.
A simple test you should do is spray some water (just few drops) on the belt when the sound is coming from, if it stops then that's definitely the solution, otherwise it could be a pulley that needs to be changed.

I have a 2002 ls trail blazer and when im at a stop i accelerate and it is not shifting to the next gear goes all the way to 3500 rpm before it shift. Would you know what causes that ?

if the tranny is low on oil it won't be able to produce enough haydralice pressure in the tranny to shift to the next gear!, or there could be a faulty shift or speed sensior

I need to know what the power drive and winter drive buttons are for on a 1998 isuzu rodeo

The winter drive button gears the transmission down so that it doesn’t spin when you take off from a dead stop in the snow and ice. It only activates by pressing and holding it when at a stop and then accelerating.

Power is for when you are hauling heavy loads. It holds a higher rpm before shifting to next gear giving you best hauling performance.

Have a winding sound coming from transmission.

I do not believe there is a DIY solution to this problem, You could try Lucas brand transmission fix. Would only help the problem temporarily. You may have a band in the xmsm going out, or a shift valve. I know 45000 miles does not seem like much on a rebuild, but something is going on inside the case. The Lucas xmsn fix is really thick fluid and it sticks in the valves and makes them fill faster to get to the next gear, or as I understand it, may fix whining for awhile, but when it returns you will have to take it to a transmission shop.
