The issue is that when I turn the key, the engine does nothing. The check engin light does come on as it is supposed to when you start a car, but the engine does not respond at all, as if there was no battery. But as I say, there is power to the car.

Hi,
You should try checking the ignition switch, its down on the top of the steering column, its blue In colour, there are two nuts holding the steering column, just take those off and it drops down until the steering wheel touches the seat. the high beam switch is held onto the steering column with the same screws as is the ignition switch so it will come off too..

Hope this is of some help to you..Thank you!! Regards!!

That issue can raise your hydrocarbon emissions and reduce your gas mileage. Your Pontiac fuel pump might be working extra hard because of a clog in the fuel system, which is often the result of failure to change a fuel filter regularly. When you decide that your Pontiac fuel pump needs replacing, order a new set from our site and start on the work yourself.

Hope that helps..........

Here are some things to check. Load test the battery. Check that the battery cable connections are clean. Check for 12 volts to starter solenoid with the key in the start position. These things should be checked first then the ignition switch, neutral safety switch, starter and starter solenoid. One of these may be faulty.

1986 Pontiac sunbird wont start

it is either gas or spark...one or the other is not getting where it needs to go. To check spark...pull a plug and leave it connected to the boot. lay it on the engine cover and turn the motor over...you should see spark. if not, start there.
