I have a 1988 rxt that was running great when it was new, at 30,000 miles, it was parked and sat indoors for about 10 years. with it being a rotary engine, what would i be looking at replacing to get it road worthy again? at 30,000 miles, im not expecting any major components to be bad, more like belts, hoses and other stuff that a rotary engine uses. any advice?

For starters -- the battery is going to be shot,, and the gas in the fuel tank is going to be bad,, and yes' look at all the hoses and belts for cracks and splits. it would also be a good idea to change the oil and spark plugs. check the tires for cracks and also check the air filter box and filter.
if you have any troubles along the way -- please feel free to write back and ask me.

Need firing order with diagram

Firing order 1-5-6-3-4-2-7-8
Distributor rotor turn's clockwise
cylinder's 1-2-5-7 left side of motor
cylinder's 2-4-6-8 right side of motor back side by fire wall.

Maintance

Keep up with your oil changes every three months or 3,000 miles which ever comes first, also at same time have all fluid level check, fuel filter and air filter replace once a year, tune-ups every two years, have your brakes check once a year, unless then feel funny have them check right away, transmission if fluid and filter has not been change every 30,000 miles, I leave it alone or new fluid will damage transmission clutches and transmission will have to be overhaul within 30 to 60 days.

Car cuts off

Were going to keep this simple and hope it's the fuel filter that has reach the end of it's life and needs to be replaced. They have an average life of 30,000 miles or 1 year. If you have not replaced the fuel filter every year or 30,000 miles, good chance that the filter needs to be replaced. Good luck and hope this helps. Keep me posted, be glad to answer any question you may have.
