Question about Chevrolet S 10

1 Answer

Hi, I have a 1997 Chevy S10. Lately it has been having trouble starting. I'll turn the key and it trys to turn over, but it takes a long time. It has always started so far, but I think it's getting close to not starting at all. Does anyone know what that could be? I appreciate your help.

Go to a local starter shop and by a brush and cap for this starter I had the same problem with a lawn mower same consept after the brushes get wore out the motor will be slow to start. The springs or the brushes are wore out. Very simple and cost effective rather than buying a new starter down the road.

How do I manually retrieve a trouble code without scan tool for a 1997 Plymouth Voyager

Try this Turn the key on ( don not try to start), turn the key off, turn the key on, turn the key off, turn the key on and leave it on. If the check engine light starts to flash start counting the number of flashes. Those will be the codes. For about $50 you can by a code reader which will give you OBDII codes which may make it easier to figure out the problem. Post the codes and we'll see what we can figure out. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

Stopped shifting into overdrive then hit it a couple times now out again 1 through 4 no problems 1997 chevy s10 4.3 not sure on type of tranny

If you can take it to someplace and have the computer scanned for trouble codes, it should indicate where the problem is. I'm pretty sure it's the torque converter solenoid, but I will do some research and get back with you.

Sounds like a starter problem, suggest you get it checked at your local trusted mechanic the next time it starts... If the starter is your problem it wont start for many more times.

Key won't turn

look at the bottom side of your steering column, the plastic covering... There's a little round plastic piece that is removeable, it's pretty much right under the ignition key switch. Remove it. If you can see up in there, there's a small round metal piece, that's the release for the key to turn. Try pressing is gently with an ink pen and turning the key at the same time.
