There is also a screw on the bottom of the light housing. You access this screw by laying on your back and reaching up behind the bumper assembly. You may also need to take one screw off the bumper mount near the tail light. This makes it easier to remove the old light housing.

You can't remove the lens cover. The tail lights are molded as one piece. If you want to change the bulbs, there should be an access panel inside the truck box right behind the tail lights that gives you access to the bulbs. There are also screws to remove the entire tail light assembly if it needs replacing.
Typically, the entire tail light assembly has to be released from the inside. So you have to remove trim, inside, for access, usually 3 or 4 thumbscrews get released and the whole thing comes out. This set up is much more watertight than the older method of lense removal.

1 Open the trunk and pull up the carpet in the trunk.
2 Remove the screw bolts that hold the trim piece to the back of both of the tail light housings.
3 Remove the trim backings to expose the tail lights.
4 Remove the electrical plug running to the bulb's ballast. Squeeze the top of the connector's release tab and remove the plug.

Open the trunk, and pull back the carpet behind the tail light assembly-- you should see 3 different sets of wires going into the back of the tail light assembly. Pick the one you need to replace, and give it about a quarter turn counter-clockwise, and the bulb, harness, and wire can be pulled out of the tail light. Replace the burned out bulb in the socket, and reinstall the bulb just as you removed it. If you have difficulty getting to the wiring harnesses to dislodge them from the tail light assembly, you can remove the tail light entirely by unscrewing the black plastic wingnuts that hold the tail light assembly in place. It may take a little bit of effort to get them started, but will allow you to see what you are doing a bit better.
The tail light is molded in one piece. If your looking to replace the bulbs, there should be an access panel inside the pickup box behind the tail light. The whole tail light assembly can be removed from there as well.
Open the back hatch of your Honda Pilot and look for two small screws. They will be right behind the tail light. Remove the two screws, using a standard screw driver. You should now be able to pull the tail light box away from the car a few inches to allow access to the sides of the tail light box
Remove the two ball sockets found on both sides of the tail light box. At this point you should be able to move the entire assembly enough to get at the tail light. Inside the tail light you will find three bulb sockets. Remove all three bulbs by turning the sockets to the left.
Then replace each break light bulb by screwing them clockwise into the sockets. Then, reassemble the tail light box in reverse order.
Try replacing the passenger side tail light bulb.
Inside trunk, remove two black plastic nuts holding carpet liner in place on side where bulb is burnt out. Pull back carpet, use a flat screwdriver to pop out the wiring. Remove three nuts using a small open-ended socket or pliers. Pop out entire tail light assembly. Locate bulb to be replaced. Rotate 1/4 turn to remove from socket. Replace bulb and repeat in reverse order to reinstall. Thank you for using fixya and good luck
