Question about 2004 Saab 9-3

1 Answer

Battery not holding charge

I have a 2004 Saab 9-3 that my mother handed down to me. I left it parked for 3 days and when I tried to start it again, it wouldn't start. I figured the battery was dead, so I jumped it, and it started up and charged after I drove it around. It started up after I stopped at a gas station. This morning, though, it did not start, and required another jump. Is this a cut and dry case of a bad battery...or should I worry about other issues? My car is under warranty for 1 more week.

Thanks for the super fast reply! I was able to get into my local Saab dealership and because there are a couple weeks left on my 4 year warranty, a new battery was installed for free. The old battery tested low at 10 volts. Just so happens there was another customer in the waiting area whose Saab battery was dead....he was working on his 3rd battery in 7 years! Must be a Saab thing. I was told the mechanic would test for unusual battery drain in my car, but I forgot to ask if that actually happened. We'll see if I need a new battery in 2 years (or sooner), but so far, so good.

Hi,

From initial indications, your analysis is correct. Pls replace the battery. Of course the only way to validate this is with a new battery.

The electrical system of most vehicles could be divided into two, the charging system and the load. The load would be from the headlights, to the computer and all the electrical consumer of the car. If there is anything wrong with any of the load, the fuse would be blown. On the other hand, the charging system is as its name implies, restores the electrical energy of the battery once the engine is running. If something is wrong (battery not charging), then there would be a warning indicator in the dashboard.

Since you have not reported any of the fuses blown or any of your electrical devices not functioning nor any warning lights, then in all likelihood, it is just the battery.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Batafter going flat after sitting for 2 days

Sounds like it no longer is able to hold a charge. After repeated starts and charging by alternator, as a battery ages it doesn't charge as deeply. Sounds like yours is on it's way out. To verify and good auto parts store or shop can load test it to confirm that.

My 2004 SAAB 9-3 one touch windows don't work properly.

I'm not positive on Saab, but I know this works for Audi and it's worth a try: Roll the window down. Then close it as you did, holding the button. Once the window is closed, release the button and then quickly tap it in the same direction. That may be all you have to do. It works for Audi and BMW so it's at least worth a try.
