YOU CAN DRILL A SMALL HOLE NI THE SEAL IN THE METAL SURROUNDING THE RUBBER LIP OF THE SEAL.SCREW A SMALL SCREW IN IT AND USE SOME VISEGRIPS/PLIERS TO PULL/PRY IT OUT. CAREFULL NOT TO DAMAGE THE NEW SEAL DRIVING IT IN. A PIECE OF PCV PLUMBLING PIPE THAT THE SEAL FITS INTO BUT THE LIP OF THE SEAL RESTS ON THE EDGE OF THE PIPE. THEN TAP OR HAMMER ON THE PIPE TO SEAT THE SEAL.

01' Mitsubishi Eclipse cv axle removal passenger side

The passenger side has a inner and outer shaft and you would remove the axle nut and shaft from spindle then the center bracket and bearing (two bolts against engine block), sliding out the axle assembling at that point, or jerking it out, careful not to pull on the cv axle end but rather the jack, or inner, shaft. After removal, separate the middle by hanging upside down and taking a hammer to it, striking the inner shaft while turning around. Dont hit the dust shield or seals. Install in reverse order. Quick tip: you may get around removing ball joint by only removing both strut bolts, and possibly tie rod end bolt.

2005 KIA SEDONA OUTPUT SHAFT SEAL

Hi Phil, On the Spyder end of the shaft that fits into the gearbox there is a retaining clip. Did you knock it in securely? If you did then a seal may have become damaged when making the replacement. That will need replacement. Regards John

HAD THE DRIVER SIDE CV AXLE REPLACED AND NOW HAS DEVELOPED FLUID LEAK OUT OF AXLE OPENING OF HOUSING SHAFT...AND IS GAPPED 3/4 OF AN INCH ?LIKE THE CV AXLE IS PULLED AWAY FROM TRANS

hi.

it is quite possible that the shaft has not reseated properly.
there is usually a spring clip on the inner shaft that holds the end in place. this may not have engaged properly (it just pushes in) or it may have become damaged and is allowing the shaft to come back out. it may just be a case of tapping the joint back into the housing, but it needs to be checked quickly. the oils is an obvious concern. you do not want to loose the oil in the gearbox as this can cause the gearbox to seize up. another problem is the risk of the shaft coming out of the trans completely, losing drive to the wheels, and possibly jamming itself.
this should be taken back to the person who did the job and ask them to look at it again.

hope this helps

I recently changed the cv axle on right hand side of my 04 kia sedona, the cv axle went into like a mid bearing and had a small shaft from there into the transmission. that seal at the transmission is...

The seal you need is called a transmission/transaxle output shaft seal. The 2 best things to do, either get the number off the original seal and have it matched at a local autoparts store or go to Kia/Hyundai. they will know the proper seal. Be sure to install the seal evenly into the trans or it may leak again. If you need anything further, please let me know.

I need to replace an inner CV boot on a '89 Chevy K2500 truck. How is the easiest way to accomplish this?

You need to remove the shaft to do a good job (I don't recommend the split boots). Once the shaft is out, I usually just replace the whole thing, as the difference in price between CV joints and shats is small compared to the labor of taking the CV off the axle. To change the shaft, you have to separate the lower ball joint and possibly the tie rod end as well. Remove the axle nut. Then you swing the hub assy away from the trans and pull the axle out of the hub. Next, put a drain pan under the trans in case it leaks a little with the axle out. Pull the axle straight out of the trans and reverse procedure to reinstall.

I need to know if special tools are needed to replace the drivers side CV joint on my 2000 Ford Windstar.

I would buy a rebuilt axle half shaft from your parts store and replace. It is cheaper than CV, boot. grease, and seal And, you have new CV's on each end of axle half shaft, not 1.

My front differential is leaking!

I cannot see it, but I am guessing that you need to replace your axle seal. To do this, you have to pull your CV shaft out. Remove the tire, remove the caliper from the top of the rotor. Using a hammer on the back, remove the rotor. Take off the spindle (axle) nut, separate the axle (CV shaft) from the hub. Replace seal. It should pop right out. Good luck!
