Truck will only start with starter fluid - 1999 Chevrolet K1500

My 98 Tahoe is doing this same thing. Will crank forever and not start, but with a small shot of starting fluid will fire right up and run fine. There are no apparent problems otherwise, and the scanner didn't show any codes at all. My Tahoe is equipped with a 5.7L SFI with about 170,000miles. Fuel pump has been replaced and appears to be working properly. I am absolutely stumped on this. Fuel Filter? Air Charge Sensor? Any thoughts would be helpful.

89 chevy 4x4 wont start unles I pour gas in the throttle body. Truck started doing this once then all of a sudden it would start but now it wont even start. the weird thing is when it does it the fuel guage goes clear to full no matter how much fuel the truck has in it.

Is it carbureted or injected. Sounds like carb if you are pouring lighter fluid in it. Check your automatic choke is working and that the spring on it isn't broken or gone altogether. And instead of lighter fluid put your hand over carb top and give a few cranks 5 or 10 secs take hand off and it should start then you know it is your choke.

Truck wont start

Starter fluid won't work if the starter won't turn the engine over.

Get the battery load tested...it may not have enough juice to start the truck but have enough to light up the lights

check your fuses and battery connections at the starter. Is the anti theft light flashing? If it is that's your problem. Wait 10 minutes insert the key...wait for the theft light to go out before trying to start.

if that doesn't work you will need to get the starter checked...which means you will have to take it off.

Car won't start when cold . . . i need to use starter fluid to start it . . . any suggetions?

1. Do not use starter fluid on a glow plug diesel engine. (explosive)
2. Most likely 1 or more of your glow plugs is out. They are not too expensive and are fairly easy to change. Facing the engine, look on the right side. There is a set of "plugs" with hoses, and a set of "plugs" with wires. You want to change the set of plugs with wires.

My 96 cobra starts great in warm weather,if it s 40 degrees or under it turns over but will not fire ,squirt a little starter fluid in the air filter and it fires right up,,what could be issue?

you say it will start right up if you spray starter fluid this should tell you something, the starter fluid takes the place of fuel(gas). the fuel is not getting to the cylinders when the temp gets cold. have the fuel pressure tested with a gauge to make sure its within spec.

My 2001 ford escape won't start . I checked all

Can\'t really help you with the no start problem without more information, but would advise you to stop using starting fluid right away. Starting fluid is hard on Diesel engines but they are made for much higher compression so will usually survive intermittent use of starting fluid. Gas engines just plain can\'t handle the much higher than normal compression that starting fluid produces which will destroy valves, piston rings, connecting rods, starters, ring gears on the transmission and head gaskets in short order. If you don\'t want to have to completely rebuild your gas engine don\'t use starting fluid on it ever!

Where do I spray the starter fluidin a 96 dodge caravan

The starter fluid needs to be sprayed on the throttle body. This is done for testing the car with starter fluid. If it runs by spraying starter fluid, then most probably the fuel pump is the problem.
If you notice no start problem on your car/.Then there are many other possibilities too. No start problem. This is many a times caused by weak battery or faulty battery, or can be possible that battery to starter connection is loose or faulty starter itself.First the battery to start and both battery and starter voltage needs to be checked and confirmed. If that is checked ok, then other possibilities like faulty spark plugs, faulty fuel pump etc etc needs to be checked. Hi,
Starter fluid? if u kept using that starter fluid cleaner, it might damage the rotor winding! Better go to ur garage and have them check it! It might only needs cleaning and lubricating!
Hope that helps u out!

I have a 1995 Dodge caravan, it turns over but

fuel filter, fuel pump sonds like it is not getting fuel. Because when you spray starter fluid in it, it started and ran on what little bit of starter fluid you sprayed it with.
